Lancaster Pa. Area in a day
 

Can anyone give me an intersting 8 hour intenerary for a Sunday in Lancaster?
Train rides, tours, dining, etc.
How about non touristy points od interest?
Bringing a friend from Germany?
Watch Museum woth a visit?

If you go to padutch.com, there is a lot of information about Lancaster. When you go, do leave the main highways. You do not have to go far to see the actual farms, small markets,schools, and buggies going along the road. More interesting than much of the very touristy stuff along route 30.

If I had a choice, I would visit this area any day except Sunday when all the Amish run businesses are closed, even the restaurants. The atmosphere, however, is still there...horse & buggies on the roads (in the afternoon).

The Strasburg railroad is a fun hour or so...many of the small towns, Ephrata, Bird in Hand, etc have unique shops with local craftmen, quilts, etc...plenty of outlets that our foreign visitors loved! Our group of French teenagers went nuts at the Rockvale outlets on Rt 30...they also were quite interested in the Amish way of life, visiting a working farm, etc

There are two Lancaster-area museums adjacent to the Lancaster Central Market. The museums are open Sunday, though the market is not. Parking on Sunday should be easy to find.

We just returned from Lancaster about an hour ago, and visited the Quilt Museum--one of the two. Quite interesting, and housed in a beautifully-retored old bank building. There's also a Museum shop next door with loads of neat stuff. Go to http://www.lancasterheritage.com/ for more information.

keith, Get Lost! i grew up near lancaster and often went with my mom & dad for something to do [farmers market,craft shops, culture experience]. loved it.
as an adult i met a lady named kinzer, after her great-great grandmother, who had lived in kinzers,pa. we went one day to look for the old family farm and the church where her ancestors are buried. while we were searching/LOST {for hours!} we saw the most beautiful farms and got to talk to wonderful people. one older gentleman even invited us to sit with him on his porch for a while. at another farm we were asked into the kitchen where they were preparing jams and pies for sale in their barnyard. this was hands down the best day i've had in the area!
is this to be a summer or winter excursion? where are you traveling from? there are many cool things to do in the region.
