Lancaster & Allentown
 

I will be staying one night in, or near, each of these towns. I would appreciate recommendations for a "high end" inn or other lodging.Thanks.

For Lancaster, I would recommend the Lancaster Arts Hotel for high end and either the Hilton Garden Inn or Marriott Courtyard for more reasonable rates.All have easy access to Rte. 222N and Allentown. You may want to resubmit for help from Reading, PA which is midpoint between Lanc and Allentown.

The Arts Hotel is beautiful, don't worry about that. However, if you are a light sleeper, call and ask for their quietest room...maybe the furthest room from the elevator. The ONLY complaint I've ever heard about staying there is the noise. Not that it's a loud hotel but it is an old warehouse and therefore has some acoustical issues. Otherwise, people have had nothing but wonderful things to say.

It's a perfect example of how small cities can revitalize themselves. Be sure to ask us if you have entertainment or dining questions. It is blocks from Franklin & Marshall College, the beautiful Fulton Opera House and truly great dining. To be honest, I hear the A.H. restaurant may be as good as any.

For your Allentown night, consider staying in historic Bethlehem. A fascinating, attractive, under-rated area with some good restaurants (The Edge, for example), a very good brewpub, and interesting shops, as well as important historic sights.

One of the best places to stay in the area is the Sayre Mansion Inn.

It's not right in the historic district, but close. Unfortunately, the only hotel in the heart of the historic district, the Hotel Bethlehem is borderline awful. With the right owner and serious revamping, it could be a wonderful place to stay for business or leisure, but at the moment...

Yes stay in Bethlehem!!! Try the Hotel Bethlehem or one of the many many chains. The Comfort Inn (routes 22 & 191) should still have the Perkins on the property, which is a plus.
