Lanai - the Lodge or Manele?
We're thinking of going to Lanai in early spring. We're leaving our toddler at home for the first time. We've been to Maui, Kauai, and the Big Island (2x) and now we thought we might try Lanai. We're not looking to do much except read on the beach. Should we stay at the Manele because it is on the beach? Or should we stay at the Lodge (it's cheaper) and take the shuttle bus? Or should we go back to the Big Island - can't imagine it without the Mauna Kea. Thanks

We spent three nights at the Manele Bay Resort and took the shuttle to the Lodge. Both resorts are very nice but the M.B. was more to our liking. The M.B. sits on a gorgeous beach (Hulopoe' Bay); reason enough for me to chose it over the Lodge.

We went for our honeymoon and planned to do 2 days at each resort. We started at the Lodge and loved it so much we stayed there... we liked how cozy it was and loved the grounds. Each morning we took the shuttle to Manele and then returned each afternoon when we needed to get out of the sun for a little croquet and wild turkey watching at the Lodge. Since it is so easy to take the shuttle back and forth, you can't go wrong either way!

You are going to Hawaii, you'll want Manele Bay. We stayed there 7 years ago for our honeymoon. The 8 days we were there were fanastic. Walking out to the pool area with the ocean as the background could't be beat. Koele is great and fun to visit for different dining options and golf, but Hawaii is water and Manele Bay has it. Planning on going back for our 10th anniversary. Have fun.

I prefer the Manele Bay. I am more of a beach/water sports person and found more to do there than at the Lodge.
While the Lodge is nice, taking the shuttle back and forth when all you want to do is spend the day by the pool or on the beach can be a pain. The distance isn't far, but it's still a 20 or so minute drive and the shuttle runs on a schedule.

Bearwithmoi my wife and I spent 4 nights on Lanai. I signed up for the Lodge but my wife would not leave MB the next day after we went there for lunch. I had to go back and move all our luggage myself. We have been to Oahu, Maui and BI but we want to return to Maui for a few nights and then about 4/5 at MB. You can fly over to Lanai from Maui on Paragon Air from Maui and return to Maui in time to catch a 5 PM flight to the U. S. That's my plan right now.

if cost is a facto, staying at the lodge will give you the option of the tiny town's cafe for dinner. at the beach, you are stuck.
i would try a different bi resort- the fairmont is nice and the mana lani also has that old school feel of the mauna kea...

Well here's a vote for the Lodge. On our first visit a few years ago, we had the option of doing 2nights/2nights. After touring Manele, we were just so happy to return to the Lodge at night.
And that is why we stayed at the Lodge on a return trip. We could walk into town and talk story with locals for bfast, easilly provision up snacks and cocktails for the room. We could enjoy early mornings on the front porch sipping coffee and taking it all in. We could return after a sunfilled day to the tranquil Lodge Pool and then a round of Proffessional putting.
We love spending many hours down at Manele, snorkling and watching the ocean. We like dining down there a bit. But the Lodge just does it for us. It is free of the conventioneer cell talking bunch.

Manele Bay- is your typical Hawaiian Resort. The Beach, the weather, the grounds.
The Lodge-higher altitude so not at warm, no beach, and more of a hawaiian mountian getaway.
If you want beach go to Manele
If you want to play golf go to the Lodge
The island is so small that you can do botha and they are about 15 minute drive from each other...
