Anyone golfed on Lanai at Manele or Koele? We are going to Maui for 10 days for our honeymoon and are avid golfers. I have golfed most courses on Maui, and thought Lanai might be a nice change of pace. We are staying at the 4 seasons on Maui, and I noticed that Manele and Koele are both 4 seasons properties now. I was going to see if the 4 seasons Maui could set this whole thing up for us.

How much should I plan to spend on the boat ride both ways, lunch and drinks, and golf (2 rounds) - we plan to play both courses, for 2 people? Where do most of the boats to Lanai depart from?

The ferry to Lanai departs from Lahaina Harbor.

You could google for the Manele Bay or Lodge at Koele to find the prices.

Both courses were $175 last year -- you might want to call to confirm what their 2007 rates are: (808) 565-2222 (Manele) and (808) 565-4653 (Koele).

The Lana`i hotels offer special pricing on golf packages, but an overnight stay is required.

Go to www.teetimeshawaii.com and they have a package set up (ferry and golf). You can set yourself up with your ferry times and teetimes. Once you are over there, they will pick you up and take you to the course (either one). I've played both courses twice and have enjoyed both of them. I'll be heading there, myself, next May. Looking forward to it.

Golpher...Great website. It looks like the 1st ferry leaves at 6:45am. Would a 9:00am tee time be a safe bet if I'm taking this ferry? I didn't notice a spot to select a return time for the ferry? Also, it mentioned a $70 replay, but I didn't see an option for that. Any thoughts?

I suggest you work with the concierge at 4S and perhaps consider staying a night on Lanai and have dinner at the Lodge.

If you've already played most of the course on Maui, this is a nice option. Will you stay overnight on Lanai? The course are beautiful, but challenging. You've got to be young and energetic to play well and enjoy both courses in a single day! Otherwise, it would be a great outing to ferry over and play one course, stay overnight either at Manele Bay or the Lodge, then play the other course the next day. Lots to do in between...

I would love to stay overnight, and play one course each day. My concern is paying for 2 hotel rooms though. I have an 8 night reservation in Maui, and am planning on doing the Lanai trip in the middle of that. Any suggestions?

Like I said, call the concierge or ask for the front desk manager. This is the 4Seasons. They are used to special requests. I am sure they can accomadate you going to Lanai overnight, leaving excess luggage behind, although you may have to move rooms from pre to post lanai.

As far as playing the second course
( for only $70 )on the same day, a teetime isn't necessary because it is pretty open in the afternoon. The morning teetime, you'll notice, is vague stating 8am, then 8:30am, then 9am, etc. Not that many people over there, so they can acoomodate you. Just be sure to be back at the last ferry time about 1/2 hour before it is scheduled to leave and you'll be alright. They'll explain it to you on your trip over in the morning. Ask them if they don't. Otherwise, I would second the idea of staying 1 or 2 nights on Lanai at the end of your time in Hawaii so you can enjoy your golf and not rush around. Good luck.
