Lake Winnipesaukee
I have five days to show my west-coast born husband the rustic beauty of New Hampshire and/or Maine, but we only have five days at the end of June, so we really need to pick one or two places at most to see. I was thinking that Lake Winnipesaukee would be a good place to stay for 2-3 days (or for the full 5 days) . I'd prefer nice rustic on the lake than a big hotel. I've read about Meredith, Wolfeboro and Alton. Can anyone suggest a hotel or Inn that is well located so we can explore the area? From there we'd head to Portland or Manchester to catch a flight out at the end of our trip.

The Bayside Inn in Alton Bay, The Belknap Point Motel or even the old King Birch Motor Lodge are all in nice locations for exploring. Take a hike up Mt. Major if the mosquitoes die off early this year.

Thanks for the recommendations clark- I'll check these out.

Are you still interested in Lake Winnpesauke? Would you consider renting?

Hi LaurieGinger - I hadn't considered that option because we're going to be there for only 3-4 days, but I would certainly consider it.

Here's another recommendation for the Bayside Inn,Alton Bay. Not without a few quirks, but the setting is absolutely spectacular. If there are only two of you, request Room #9. There's not much appealing dining nearby. For that you have to go to Wolfeboro, Meredith, etc. an easy drive.

DJBooks - Thanks for your vote for the Bayside Inn.
