Lake Vacation

Hi-

My family is thinking about taking a lake vacation somewhere in Tennessee. My boys are 13 and 10 and love anything to do with water, so we are looking for a lake which will have water amenities, such as kayaks, renting boats, fishing docks, swimming area - and maybe white water rafting near by. I would really like a place on the water and not too rustic. We definitely want a cabin with a kitchen and very clean and nice. We are looking to vacation the end of June, I am assuming the water would be warm enough that time of year? Our budget for the week is $2500 TOPS. Of course if there is a great place cheaper, that would be great. We will be traveling from northern VA and are really looking forward to our adventure in TN.

I really appreciate any suggestions!
Thanks
Judy

I would join Trip Advisor and post this on their TN forum. You will get a lot of responses about cabins in the Smokies and around the state. You might want to consider somewhere in NC along the Blue Ridge Parkway. You can find some white water rafting there around Nantahala.

Hi I would recommend staying on Douglas Lake. It is pretty close to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg and The Great Smoky Mountains and plenty of Rivers for water rafting. There is so much to do and see in the East TN area. I would check for cabins area the lake or maybe up in the mountains around there. Wears Valley is a nice area and close to the park and the towns.I do think you can do everything you want to do on that budget. You can always bring pre cooked foods from home to save money on dinning out. A pot roast in a crock pot would be good.If the guys are into fishing then there is plenty of places for fishing. In Pigeon Forge they have alot of things for teenagers to do and alot of go kart tracks and things and in the park there are over 800 miles of trails to hike on and horseback riding and playing in the water and on the rocks are always fun. There is also a place where you can rent Rhinos and four wheelers for some ATV fun. Here is a few websites you might want to check out. If you have any other questions plese ask. I have been coming to the area for years and years and several times a year. Going back in mid April and I cant wait. Have fun on your trip :)
