Lake Tahoe-romantic accommidations
Well I got a great fare and will be off to Lake Tahoe in June. I have never been to the area and after reading suggestions on the forum, I am still uncertain where to stay. Here is my criteria:
1. Going with my husband for a hopefully romantic getaway. 2. Want to stay for under $200 3. Not into gambling, but would like to see some good shows - so quiet, but within 10-15 minutes of the action? 4. Like to bike and hike, picnic 5. Want to stay on the lake - maybe rent a boat 6. A resort rather than just a place to sleep. Any suggestions? Thanks guys! PS sorry its "accommodations" :-) |
A really romantic spot is the Black Bear Inn if you can swing $215 for the frontier room. They have a lovely spa in a gazebo.
Since most shows are at south shore you'd have to drive if you stayed at teh Hyatt at Incline or anywhere on the west shore. Sunnyside Resort is very nice, right on the lake and since it's a marina it rents boats. But... it's on the west side and would be about 40 minutes drive to south shore fo the show thing. The Marriott has built brand new lodges at south shore that may be of interest to you. Just down from the casinos but still in CA. The grand residence is more upscale than the Timber Lodge. Though both places are timeshare they do rent the rooms as well. |
Suzie - Made reservations at Sunnyside, it looks great and if the website is accurate a great spot for our daily activities. Janet the Lodge Manager was very helpful in making the reservation and providing information about the area. I am obsessive about where I stay and like to second guess myself, so I appreciate your suggestions and all the good advise I get at Fodors. Any recommendations on eating and entertainment not connected to the casinos? Thanks again, Donna

The restaurant at Sunnyside is very nice. Ate there just a couple of weeks ago. It's right on the lake. Also on the north side is Garwoods which also is right on the lake.
On the south shore one of my faves is Evans which is near Camp Richardson. Awesome fod, but the serve only wine & beer. Also really romantic is Cafe Fiore. Has only about 7 tables and is very good. Love breakfast at Norfolk Woods Inn which is in Tahoma. Great fruit crepes. Good hike is Cascade Falls. Take trailhead near Emerald bay at the Bayview Campground. Go all the way to the end of the road and park. Trail is well marked. Great views of Cascade Lake and then Tahoe in the background. |
Suzie - thanks again for so many good recommendations. We are looking forward to our trip and will certainly try some of these restaurants. If you think of any other can't miss activities, let me know!
