lake tahoe restaurants
we will be staying at the hyatt at incline in august and would like some suggestions for dinners. i am a bit of a foodie so the food is important. we will be trying the lone eagle grill....i think. would prefer not to break the bank but a splurge or two on vacation is fine. thanks for the advice!

Some of our favorites on the North shore are-
The Big Water Grille, Incline Village Captain Jon's , Tahoe Vista The Soule Domain, Crystal Bay |
I like Garwoods in Carnelian Bay
If you are in SLT at any time during your visit you really should go to Evans American Gourmet. |
We were just in N. Tahoe/Truckee last week. Tried and liked the following:
Big Water Grille, Incline Moody's Bistro, Truckee Caliente, King's Beach West Shore Cafe, Homewood (for lunch) Caliente is owned by the Garwoods people. Nice set-up, yummy food and many cocktail choices. MY |
thanks everyone...i am going to go and check them out online. is the drive south a big deal to go for dinner? is it very dark & winding? thanks
Dear mwoodrowe: Of the resaurants I listed, only Caliente is mid-range price wise. The others are $$$$. On the westside, Sunnyside is very good and reasonable.
The drive to south shore is not difficult, but you need to take it easy since there are usually deer out on the road at night. I would stick to N./West shore at night. It won't get really dark until around 8:30ish. MY |
oh i would die if we hit a deer. i am from ny so restuarants here are pretty expensive. hwo is the drive in to truckee at night?
Wow in all the years I've been to tahoe I've never seen a deer on 89. Have I just been lucky? I see lots of deer in Auburn though - too many. Need a gun.
If I were driving from Incline Village to SLT I would drive on the east side of the lake. Straight shot, easier drive.
any thoughts about jake's by the lake?
A lot of tourists like Jake's because of the location-right on the water. I gave up on this after two tries. Service & food is 2** out of 5. [not a foodie place]
It's part of a chain w/ other locations in Hawaii & Malibu. |
Agree about the food at Jake's, pedestrian.
i am assembling menus..anything else? thanks
Pacific Crest in Truckee. Tried it last year and we were please with our meal.
Jake's is the same outfit at Sunnyside. We went many years ago and felt crammed in. Other places we like much better. We've rarely seen a deer on the road between Truckee & King's Beach, but have on the east shore road. Of course this was in the wee hours of the morning, after a night of fun :) As Suzie advised, the east shore road down to S. Shore is the best and quickest way to go. MY |
any good italian? how about the inexpensive but great locals spot?
Very popular Italian - Lanza's (which may be in King's Beach, or maybe be in Tahoe Vista -- you turn right on Lakefront Blvd. from 267 and it's on the right-hand side. Old-fashioned red-sauce Italian.
so i am thinking that garwoods and jake's are similiar? if so which would you choose if you only went to one? thanks
Garwoods!! No contest.
Garwoods. Great views from the deck and terrific food.
Garwoods has great views. I'm not so keen on the food, at least at lunch.
