Lake Tahoe REcommendations
 

We're plng our first trip from NJ to Lake Tahoe in Sept after the summer crowds. We're not really into casinos, but want to spend a day or two in that area. I'm looking for lodging recommendations? Want a room overlooking the lake. Then we want to spend a couple days in less developed section <BR>(again lake view, but not camping) enjoying the scenery and outdoor activities, boating, etc. <BR> <BR>thx, donna

I was in Lake Tahoe this past Feb. They just rebuilt the Embassy Suites hotel. It looks like a Swiss Chalet, and is on the lake. There are also alot of condo units in that area. Check out laketahoe.com for more choices. <BR>Enjoy!

There are two Embassy Suites in South Shore. One is a time share vacation resort thing down by the marina. The other is like the regular Embassy and it is just on the CA side of the stateline. I have stayed at the latter many times and have enjoyed myself. If you want something nice away from the casinos check out Sunnyside Resort. It's right on the lake on the west side. South of Tahoe City. September is about the most beautiful time to go to Tahoe. No crowds but the weather is still very nice.

Just so you know Donna, both north and south shore of Tahoe have casinos. The south shore is where the bigger casinos are like Ceasars, Harrahs etc. North shore has the smaller casinos like CalNeva and Biltmore and there is also a casino in the Hyatt in Incline. The Hyatt was recently renovated and is much nicer than it used to be. In addition they have lakeside cottages that are stunning. If I could get one of those I'd stay forever.

Donna, <BR> <BR>As Suzy suggests, you can get a taste of the casinos in North Lake Tahoe. IMO, if you're not into casinos and crowds, you'll like the north side of the lake much better. It's much less commercialized and more peaceful. If you want to visit the casinos in the south, it's an easy and beautiful drive. I second the Hyatt cottages on the lake--incredibly beautiful but VERY expensive. If you do a search, you'll find lots of homes and condo rentals on the north side with a lake view. Start with www.tahoefun.org for some ideas.
