Lake Tahoe/NO gambling
Would like to take a five day trip to Tahoe around the 4th of July, with my husband. Have NO interest in gambling - want to see the scenery. Where do we stay?

Stay in the North Shore, Incline Village or Tahoe City are the two biggest towns to look for. I love Tahoe, and never gamble. There's lots to do on the "nature" side of the lake.

Pat, Pat, Pat....Have you ever been to Tahoe for the 4th. Most regular visitors avoid that time. Overwhelmingly crowded. It takes hours to go very short distances so the only reasonable mode of transportation is a boat. Just to give you a clear idea, go to Safeway in Tahoe city and try to buy anything to bbq you will find no products in the meat case. We don't go anymore though we have access to a boat it is very scary on the lake after the fireworks. Many boaters have been drinking for hours and safety and common sense are not on the top of their list. Surpringly though Squaw Creek Resort is offering a special there during the 4th which might be a good back up plan. You could try www.squawcreek.com or check out the Hyatt in Incline (though Incline is hidiously busy Hyatt has their own private beach) www.laketahoehyatt.com. My one parting piece of adice. Do not attempt to drive on the 4th.

I second the recommendation to stay in Incline Village. We rented a condo there 2 summers ago in late August. Spent 5 days on beaches, hiking, rafting, and sightseeing. Lovely and relaxing at that time of year!

If you don't like to gamble and want to avoid crowds (tons that week due to the holiday) suggest you rent a private home. If you are interested, I can put you in touch with a couple who have a beautiful one they lease out for reasonable rates.

North Star would be another nice option
