Lake Tahoe lodging-South shore?
We are taking first time visitors to Lake Tahoe for 2 nts this August. Trying to find nice lodging for 4 adults (probably 2 separate rooms)for max $125/night each room. Have reviewed tripadvisor and many reviews seem to go both ways...bad & good for any given place. I thought about Lakeside Inn & Casino at $79/nt but the reviews suggest 'bugs'. The only other place that looks ok is Holiday Inn Express @ about $131/night per room. Any other suggestions? We do want to stay at south shore so the visitors can gamble if they want. Thanks for your advice/answers.

Forest Inn and Suites have 2 bdroom units. It may be higher than your budget if it's on a weekend:

$125 a night will be tough in August. None of the casino hotels willbe in that range - and neither will the Forest Inn.
A simple motel will be the best option for inexpensive. But if gambling is why you want southshore - there are 5 casinos at north shore. You'll find generally less expensive accomodations on the north end of the lake. |
trippinkpj - Forest Inn & Suites looks great and a 2 bedroom is in the budget! Thanks! We're going mid-week x 2 nights, late August.
janisj - we're not at all familiar w/North shore...any suggestions for places? TIA |
Hmmm...Tripadvisor has mixed reviews for Forest Inn..Anyone been there recently?
|
For $125. a night, you're not going to get the Ritz.
|
TTess...what's the point of responding like that? Kind of abrupt & rude and certainly not helpful to the OP.
|
We've stayed at the Foret Inn twice, but the most recent time was three years ago. We found the units spacious and well located.
|
JIW - I guess I didn't come across clearly - my point was that if you find negatives about a place on sites such as TA, perhaps it's due to the fact that it doesn't cost much to stay there so you're going to find negatives. At $125./nite you aren't going to get The Ritz, capisci?
By the way, calling somebody names is rude and unnecessary. |
JIW - you haven't posted a suggestion to help the poster, you only slapped my hand. Why the criticism out of the blue? You haven't posted on Fodor's since February? What gives? Are you a troll?

You may be able to find a condo or small house for $250 a night- There are a lot of rental agents in South Lake Tahoe. Do a search and see what they have. Also, the Embassy Suites, next to Harrahs, might be less than $250 a night and one suite should fit 2 couples (and it comes with a big breakfast).

I haven't been to the Forest Inn and Suites, though a "particular" travelling friend has been there in the past couple of months (for skiing at Heavenly) and loves it. I just looked in my current AAA book and it's rated 3 diamonds.

I just looked at Trip advisor. Most reviews are positive, and for the price range I think it's a good option. And I think TTess' comment was perfectly fine. It was a realistic comment about expectations for a moderate to lower budget accomodation. :-)

Hi Trippin - thanks for your thoughts. As usual, you know your stuff.
|
Forest Inn & Suites is a great choice. It's nicely located just behind the Timber Lodge and Embassy. Easy distance to Raleys grocery and the entire Heavenly village area.
|
For what it's worth, we rode the gondola at Heavenly this winter with a family of 5 that was staying at the Forest Inn & Suites, and they were raving about it. They said the room was very spacious and the price was right. Also, as Suzie points out, the location is close to the So. Shore attractions.
