Lake Tahoe in July
My wife and I ( with the dog) are wanting to visit the Lake Tahoe area during the week of July 4th. We will be traveling from the SF/Bay area and would really like some advice on places to stay, sites, activities and other things around the Lake. We like hiking, good food and prefer B&B's.
Any and all advice is appreciated. |
I live in Reno so I have seldom stayed in Tahoe for many years and when I did it was a friends place. Make your reservations very soon...you'll get some good ideas, but you are picking one of the busiest times up there.
Do you have a preference as to which side you want to be on? South Shore is a total zoo on the fourth but you might like all the "excitment". |
Have you found a B&B that will take a dog?
|
I just googled bed and breakfast Lake Tahoe and got a zillion hits. You might try there and see what you come up with and if you find a few places, ask if anyone has stayed or knows about them.

Which part of Tahoe? If South, don't miss the spectacular fireworks on the lake.

July 4th is the absolute busiest/most crowded time at Tahoe. Everyplace will be booked up and travel to and around the lake will be congested/slow.
You should nail something down as soon as possible. The fireworks over the Lake are terrific - but if you can swing a different weekend you will find more availability, smaller crowds, shorter lines and all around and easier trip. |
we stayed near the olympic village just west of the Lake - great location for the hikes in the South and the northeastlocation on the Nevada side (a must to visit).
0. make sure you visit the Nevada side as well as doing the hikes in the South. |
Avoid the south shore during that July 4th week. It is a zoo, and your car just inches along to get anywhere. The west and north are better. They have several firework shows on the north shore, Tahoe City, Kings Beach and Incline Village. There are good restaurants all around the lake. Let us know where you book and we'll help you fine tune your trip.
We make reservations a year in advance for that week, so you should get started now. |
