Lake Tahoe hotel with a lake view

Looking to spend a few days in August at Lake Tahoe area. Been there only once in winter briefly. I understand north side is where we want to be, as I hate the casino/cheap setting in the south. I am looking at Ritz Carlton but would prefer to stay at a place with a view of the lake - doesn't have to be lakeside, though that would be nice, but a view to the lake is great to have. Any suggestions for a nice hotel?

Thanks

The Hyatt in Incline . . .

There actually aren't that many (other than motels, in King's Beach and elsewhere). The two suggested might be your only choices that aren't in South Lake (and I agree with your reasons for wanted to stay north).

Thanks much everyone - great suggestions. I am leaning towards Hyatt and as it seems to have more activities. I am thinking of staying there at most four nights and three days, doing hiking and the usual. Is that too much or right amount for that area?

No matter how long you stay at Tahoe you can easily fill your time -- people go up for 2 days and others spend the entire summer. So no, 4 nights won't be too much.

Be sure to hit Sand Harbor (very close to the Hyatt) -- probably the singles most beautiful place on the lake. Rent Kayaks for a great afternoon - picnic lunch on the beach at sand harbor and a a couple of hours on the lake.

For something different near the Hyatt - check out the Thunderbird Lodge.

If you stay at the Hyatt, you will have access to their very nice beach. Sand Harbor is mobbed on weekends. Very beautiful and very popular. Try to get there by 10 am.

True - I never go there on Sat or Sun in summer -- but you are at Tahoe four nights so shouldn't be a problem.

We drove by Sand Harbor around 10 last Saturday and the parking lot was full (and consequently traffic was at a complete standstill for 10 minutes while those turned away tried to figure out what to do). There is nowhere else to park, and walk-ins are not allowed, so you either get there super-early, take the shuttle from Incline, or arrive by water. It was slightly better when we drove by on Friday.

We're here 4 days of every week this summer, and certainly haven't run out of things to do! We've hiked, biked, kayaked, listened to live music, gone to Truckee Thursdays, sat at the pool (and in between, we've both worked, since this is really just a remote "office" for the summer).
