Lake Tahoe for Memorial Day Weekend
Hello everyone:
DH, DD (one and half years old) and I would like to go some place driveable (3-5 hours) over Memorial Day weekend. I was thinking about Tahoe and was actually able to find not too bad a deal for the Ritz Carlton up there. The weather sites indicate that the temps will be mid 30s to mid 60s. So not super warm, but not super cold either. Some questions: 1. Is it too late for skiing at the end of May? 2. What kinds of activities can we do at this time? I have looked on the forum and there are plenty of suggestions for ski season and summer season, but I think this might be an in-between season? 3. For reference, we would be open to scenic drives (can't be longer than an hour though as DD will get ansy), walking or mild hiking (with a stroller or perhaps a back carrier if I can buy a used one by then), good restaruants, food, children's park/play areas (if they exist). Museums/galleries would be tough to do with DD. I fear that perhaps we might be very limited due to DD, but I guess those are the joys of parenting :) Thanks in advance. |
Sorry that should read "good restaruants, WINE,children's park/play areas (if they exist). Museums/galleries would be tough to do with DD."

The weather is often warm and beautiful at Tahoe over Memorial Day Weekend. It's also quite crowded then.
Be careful how you book at the Ritz. Make sure that if you pay in advance that it is refundable since the property is going through foreclosure. http://www.news10.net/news/local/sto...?storyid=80251 |
OMG Otis, thank you for the URL - I had no idea!
Thanks for your feedback. If its crowded, I'm sure there will be plenty of other people in our situation so hopefully, we'll find plenty of stuff to do :) |
One could ski -- IF any of the resorts stayed open that late. Which they don't. So -- no skiing.
Memorial Day is a great time at the lake. But it does get crowded. Traffic up on Friday and back on Monday will be a zoo. I-80 and hwy 50 are pretty much bumper to bumper after 1PM that Friday and after 9 or 10 AM on Monday. So if you go to Tahoe -- plan your drives to miss those times. here is a more detailed story about the R-C. So far hotel operations are not affected. http://www.sacbee.com/2010/04/27/270...ake-tahoe.html |
