Lake Tahoe area activities

We are going to be in Lake Tahoe June 3, 4 & 5 2011. We will be staying at the 3 Peaks Resort which appeared to have excellent reviews. It is in the South Lake Tahoe area.

Is skiing possible at that time of year and is it good enough to consider?

What are the best areas to experience Lake Tahoe. We are not much on gambling, but are up for just about anything else.

i think most of the ski resorts are closed or closing this weekend. even tho there is a chance of snow showers this weekend!
that's kind of a dead time up there- too cold for lake but no skiing. there is some great hikes in that area tho- we rode the heavenly tram to top last year and hiked around there- very beautiful
i also find some good shopping right in the area your hotel is in!

There are a lot of great hikes. We enjoyed the Rubicon Trail. It starts at Bliss State Park. The scenery on the trail is spectacular.

Other fun things
Emerald Bay State parkand the hike down to Vikingsholm

Biking the path along the lake

Stop up at Squaw Valley where the 1960 Winter Olympics were held

Take the Heavenly Ski Tram up the mountain for the views

I am a relaxing kind of girl when I go to Tahoe but then we generally stay in North Shore but in South Shore we have rented bikes and enjoyed that. If you have a car, drive around the lake (California side) towards Emerald bay for some great views and walks, or take a ride on the Dixie Queen - a paddle wheel boat on the East side of the lake (Nevada)which crosses the lake to Emerald Bay. Zepher Cove (Nevada side of the lake)has some good beaches if the weather is warm enough. There might take in a show at night at one of the clubs. Beautiful country - enjoy

Just be aware the water is frigid and you will not be swimming in June.

Bring long pants and at least a jacket for the chilly evenings. Lovely, but chilly at night, and windy on those Emerald Bay trips.
