Lake Tahoe & Reno in Augsut
Two couples (40-something +) traveling to Reno 1st week of Aug. Luckily, we've got great accommodations at a private home there (company perk.)
I lived on the west shore of Lake Tahoe (Homewood) for 8 months in 1976 - but missed the summer there, and know much has changed since!
Would love ideas from fellow Fodorites on Lake Tahoe: hiking, swimming, boating - plus restaurants for lunch/dinner.
In addition, feedback on day-time activities - as well as restaurants for dinner - in the Reno area would be most appreciated. (Not much into gambling, though we may check out a casino or two while there)
Ideas for one 'special' restaurant in Reno for our last night there would also be great.
Budget is pretty open, though not looking for the most expensive place in town!
Thanks in advance!

In Reno, if might be in the Hot August Nights timeframe, which can get crazy LOL. I've mostly dinned in the Casino properties (El Dorado, Harrah's, Peppermill and Atlantis). Al of those places have good buffets. Brew Brothers at El Dorado is a fun place with quality food.

The first weekend of August is usually Hot August Nights. As far as dining, i can't help much with Reno, but Truckee has some nice places. Along the Lake, Gar Woods is great. Too many to mention. For beaches, we like Sand Harbor on the east side.
Do a search above to come up with more ideas.

Highly suggest you drive over the Mt. Rose Hwy. to Incline Village to the Lone Eagle Grill for lunch or dinner. It is very special. It's on the lake and part of the Hyatt Hotel. You'll need ressies for dinner in Aug. especially at sunset.

when in Reno visiting in-laws. my hubby and I usually eat at Romanza'a at the Peppermill-great Italian food. There is a really nice steakhouse in the Atlantis too. There are plenty of chains there too- Outback Steakhouse, etc. I will ask my in-laws for other suggestions and get back to you
