Lake Tahoe activities
I am getting married over fourth of July weekend at Lake Tahoe. All guests will be from out of town, and I would like to have a list of suggested activities for them. I am familiar with lake Tahoe, but mostly north shore. My wedding will be at south shore...any suggestions besides gambling? I am sure people will be wanting to spend time outdoors. Also, any favorite restaurants or picnic spots? Thank you!

Are you familiar with

http://www.virtualtahoe.com

??

Heather, Congrats.
You can rent bikes and cruise if these people are in shape...Remember, the altitude is around 6-7,000 ft. Boat cruise on the lake?

Also, no matter what you do, leave early for it because Tahoe is jammin' over the 4th...You may wish to see if that site quoted above has a map that shows you some of the "shortcuts" off of Hwy 50 route and around all of the traffic tie ups.
Kal

Heather, couple of idea's have them take a paddleboat cruise of the lake or they could take the tram up to the lodge at the top of Heavenly for a breathtaking view. Tram runs all year. If the weather is hot you can picnic at any of the great beaches ringing the southern part of the lake. Bonanza is a short and beatiful drive up the eastern shore.

Congrats

The tram at Squaw Valley is great.
Take a boat trip onto the Lake, very informative and beautiful views.
The Ponderosa ranch is worth visiting, gorgeous views, they actually filmed the Bonanza series there, all the outdoor shots were filmed there.

How 'bout golfing? The Edgewood is the best. Put on the sunscreen and get some brewski's by the lake.
|
By all means take a boat over to Garwoods and have a couple of pitchers of Wet Woodies while sitting out on the deck. DO NOT DRIVE THERE if you are drinking Wet Woodies!!!

Try the Forrest Room at the top of Harrah's for their Seafood Buffet every Friday night. The restaurant is at the top of the hotel/casino and commands a terrific view of the sunset over the western Sierra's. If you like buffet's this is one of the best. Even if you don't eat take few minutes to enjoy a cocktail at sunset.

Heidi's is a South Lake Tahoe tradition. They specialize in hearty breakfast only a short drive from Stateline. Huge omelete's and ton's of choices leaves you stuffed and ready to explore the Factory Stores at the Y.

The Y is at the intersection of HWY's 80 and 89 on the California side of the stateline. Quality shopping with great prices: Mikasa, Bass Shoes, Van Heusen, Geoffrey Beene, Izod, Adidas and more.

SF Ghost, you sound like you own some stock in those Factory Outlets!
Heather, those stores are just one giant strip mall, the same kind you see everywhere in America; Folsom and Vacaville have the same set of outlet stores. Who in the world hosts a wedding and invites their guests to go shopping at a strip mall?

Check out the shows at the casinos, take a paddleboat tour, Harrah's rooftop buffet is good, check out the activites in Zephyr Cove -- rental boats, etc.. the drive to Emerald Bay is lovely, there's some good hiking nearby as well, with lots of lovely lake views.

I agree with Marnie. Factory Outlet malls are all over the place. Why waste your vacation ( especially your honeymoon ) doing something that you can probably do at home. A few years back, the Factory Outlet malls were a novelty as they were few and far between. Now every little town has them and some of the cities have several.

Must agree with the post regarding Emerald Bay, it's gorgeous. Be sure to take your camera. Anyone eat at the little English Pub in SLT? Skip the shopping.
|
Some of your group may also be interested in driving over to the old silver town of Virginia City.

And another recommendation to the Emerald Bay area.
|
Lots of nightlife, fun clubs. Rent bikes and ride the paths, hike around Emerald Bay. Be sure to check out the Ponderosa!
