Lake Tahoe Accomodations
We are going to Lake Tahoe Aug.18 and plan to stay 1 week. We would like to rent a house(2 bedroom/2 bath) on the West side or North Side. We would like to have a lake front house if we can find one. If not we would like one in the mountains with beautiful views(possibly lake view). Can anyone suggest a good Property Management company to rent from or a house you may have stayed in?

We always rent homes on the west side. We use enjoytahoe.com. They are great! They have lots of homes to choose from.
I also really like http://www.tluxp.com/ for more upscale properties. They rent nice properties with more lakefront than other companies. 2 bedroom is pretty small so that may cut down on what's available in the more desireable locations. You may have to increase the bedrooms to get just what you want. |
I always use Lake Tahoe Accomodations
http://www.tahoeaccommodations.com/ If you want beautiful views the east side of the lake is better. |
Where can you stay on the east side? There really isn't that much lodging between Incline village and Zephyr Cove.

We are planning a vacation in northern California to meet up with a son working in Hollywood. Hoping to go to Lake Tahoe, Napa Valley, and San Francisco. How long does it take to drive from the Napa area to Lake Tahoe or from San Francisco to Tahoe? We've been to Napa and San Francisco several times but never to the Tahoe area.
Thanks! |
SF to Tahoe is 3-4 hours. 4 is realistic. I have never driven from Napa to Tahoe but I imagine it would take close to an hour longer.

4 hours from SF and 5 from Napa are good estimates. However, you need to miss the busy times - all day Friday heading to Tahoe and all day Sunday heading from Tahoe. During these times, travel takes 1-2 hours longer.
For accomodations, most every home on the Lake is much larger than 2/2. I would recommend Incline Village as a great location and you might want to contact the Hyatt. They have some lakeside units that would work. If you'd prefer to use a service, we've always had great luck with www.vacationstation.com The McCloud townhouses are our favorites. They are only a one or two block walk to the beach and to the Hyatt. You will love Tahoe in August. Check into the Shakespeare at Sand Harbor. Kevin |
From the town of Napa to South Lake Tahoe 3 1/2 to 4 hours--no stops..Be sure to avoid times as stated by "ChiDad"
We prefer the North end of Tahoe,,,especially in August--South end is SO congested Weather can be fairly warm days and cool at night.. |
Thank you all for the input on the driving times. The responses to patcla46 on accommodations will also be helpful. One last question that came to mind: if my husband and three sons want to play golf, are there one or two courses that you would recommend? Or is better to focus on other activities in this region? Thanks again. |
Golf can be lovely in South Lake Tahoe at Edgewood. There is a celebrity tournament there every July. Cool celebrities too! ;) Great views on the course! http://www.edgewood-tahoe.com/course.htm
Northstar has golf as well. Though it's nearer to Truckee than to the lake it's still quite beautiful: http://www.northstarattahoe.com/info/summer/golf.asp There is also golf in Incline with 2 courses and Squaw Valley. |
re golf - there is GREAT golf at Tahoe. Edgewood is at southshore (it is where they play the American Century Celebrity tournament every July). At Northshore there are good courses at Incline Village, and others including Kings Beach.
As for your accomodations - wanting a 2-bdrm you will be better off looking for a condo. MANY more of them than 2 bdrm houses/cabins. Incline has a lot - the McCloud already mentioned is good. Or for a bit cheaper you could try Club Tahoe also in Incline Village. |
