Lake Tahoe Accommodations/info

We are planning a trip to Lake Tahoe in late spring. We would like to hear suggestions on accommodations. We are early 50's and will be celebrating our 2nd wedding anniversary.

We probably will play a round of golf (newbies at the game), gamble a little and just want to take in the scenery and eat at some nice restaurants. Views, beautiful accomodations and romantic.

No preference as far as resort/condo or small lodge. Look forward to hearing your suggestions.

Thanks so much.

Any ideas on accomodations would be very helpful.

Congratulations on your 2nd anniversary! My DH and I went to Lake Tahoe last Fall and thought it was beautiful, with tons of things to do. For gambling, you'd have to stay near the Nevada border, which means either South Lake Tahoe (where we stayed) or Incline Village (quieter, north side of the lake).

We stayed at Tahoe Seasons Resort (www.tahoeseaons.com), because we got a good deal. The room was nice (fireplace and hot tub), but it doesn't really have views of the lake. You might want to look into Marriott Timber Lodge. It hadn't opened yet when we were there last year, but it looked gorgeous and I hear it has great views. The casino hotels also have good views since they're the highest buildings in South Lake Tahoe - Harrahs, Ceasars and Harveys. Heard Harveys is the best.

Look at the Hyatt at the North Shore. So much more refined that the resorts at South Shore.

To Patrick & Barb:

Thanks for your suggestions, I will start perusing today.

Patrick: Are you the same Patrick that lives in Naples, Florida. I also inquired awhile back about hotels in Naples and you suggested Hotel Escalante which we will be staying at in the near future. You were a great help!

Will post a review when we return.

This forum is very helpful. Another great forum is USVI online forum for those of you interested in the USVI. We were married on the island of St. John and I highly recommend it. Stunning!

thanks again!

We have stayed at Brockway Springs resort in Kings Beach several times and really liked it. It's a quiet place, right on the lake with lakefront condos. The condos have fireplaces and decks and a nice view of the lake. It's a few miles from the Nevada border, so the casinos are close by. North shore is quieter than south shore and the casinos aren't as glitzy. You are also a short drive from Tahoe City which is a nice little town. Truckee is close by too.

Hi Floridabound! We have enjoyed our stays in South Shore at the Inn by the Lake. It is a small, quaint inn that was in our Entertainment Book. There is a very nice pool, bi-level spa and complimentary bikes and breakfast.

We stayed in a standard room, but they do offer beautiful rooms with full lakeviews and even jacuzzi-suites. It was a very nice location. We enjoyed the Dory's Oar for a fine dining experience and their pub for a casual lunch with partial views of the lake.

We also enjoyed a nice lunch at Zephyr Cove and the Sunnyside Lodge with marine views while you dine. The inn will pack a picnic lunch for you (compelte with a driving CD) for a drive around the lake. They also scheduled a Sunset sailboat cruise for us which was just beautiful on the Windjammer II. www.innbythelake.com for more information. Enjoy Lake Tahoe! ***kim*** :)

Hmm, thought I posted on this last night, but my response is gone.
Yes, floridabound, I'm the same Patrick. I'm looking forward to your report on Naples and the Escalante. Hurry down. I had to switch to iced latte this morning at Starbuck's after my beach walk -- I was dripping. In the 80's today.

Hey Patrick,

sorry to get away from Tahoe subject but since you checking this. What will be a good restaurant to eat at the night we arrive (my b'day). Near Hotel Escalante or therabouts. We will have a car.

View, preferably water view, ambiance and of course great food. We are not that fussy. Love seafood, Italian or French...

thanks Patrick!

We have an amazing shortage of "waterview" restaurants. My first choice for what you say would be Syrah, about 10 blocks away in the Bayfront development (behind the Comfort Inn by the bridge). You can eat outside, and the terrace faces the bay (across a driveway). Food is fantastic and great ambiance. Seafood is really the speciality with a whole sushi menu as well, but their rack of lamb is equally superb. Call for a reservation about a week before to be sure. 239-417-9724. In the same complex is a less expensive but very nice Il Bellagio, again you could eat outside facing the water (sort of)239-430-7020. You can google Syrah and find a website with a menu.

If you wanted to drive half an hour, there is Baleen at the LaPlaya, right on the beach. My experience wasn't good service-wise, but it is still very good, and I think my experience wasn't the norm. It just seems odd to come and stay in the midst of Fifth Avenue "restaurant row" and then drive half an hour to eat.

Patrick: I value your opinion. You can tell you have "class" and have been around. I will check out the 2 restaurants you mentioned.

thanks so much!

Love Tahoe, especially in the fall, though you'll be there in spring which is lovely too! Great places to stay on South Shore, beside already mentioned Tahoe Seasons,: Embassy Suites, Black Bear Inn and either of the new Marriott properties, Marriott Grand or Timber Lodge. Maybe get good deals if the snow is gone. All of these places are in CA but are near the casinos. Restaurants for special Occasion: Evans and Cafe Fiore.
There is golfing nearby.

On the west side: Sunnyside Resort. Can get good lake views here. Golfing in Tahoe City. Restaurant for special occasion can be at the Resort or in Tahoe City just 3 miles away.

On the north: Hyatt at Incline, NV. Golf nearby. Nice restaurants on north shore: GarWoods in Carnelian Bay, Le petite Pier in Tahoe Vista, Soule Domain in Kings Beach
