Lake Tahoe

Four gals (60ish!) are staying at a resort June 6-11th in South Lake Tahoe w/ a rental car. We enjoy sight seeing. shopping. kayaking. casinos. live bands. happy hours. Looking to add to our itinerary. We want to drive around the lake. What would be the best stops for our adventure? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanx! JJSP (Judy. Judy. Shelly. Peg)

If it should happen to rain you can visit the Nevada State Museum in Carson City. http://museums.nevadaculture.org/ind...486&Itemid=439
You can also go to see Donner Pass and Donner Lake on the way to Truckee.

Donner Lake is very pretty, but nothing to see at Donner Pass (other than the freeway and maybe a commemorative marker).

Truckee is a cute little town with good shopping and eating - it's a gold rush town, so "historical", too.

Incline Village isn't much of a town at all, but you can drive along the lake and gawk at the mega-millions mansions.

The drive around the lake is fantastic - great views around every turn. Do go all the way around, because it's different on every side.

Virginia City (not on the lake) is historical and a little interesting.

We saw some great live music for free last summer at the Red Room at Crystal Bay Casino. Not sure if you will want to be on that side of the lake, though, late at night. We also went to a sunday afternoon concert in the park in Tahoe City which was outstanding. Lots of restaurant choices in Tahoe City.

I agree about the Nevada State Museum. I still love the "mine" that's at the bottom of the building.

I've been going there since I was 8 years old.

Virginia City is worth a day trip.

Also, go to one of the Basque restaurants in Gardnerville. They've been there forever. JT's is my favorite.
