Lake Tahoe
 

I am looking for advice on where to stay in Lake Tahoe. I want to be close to golf and my wife wants to be close to the casinos, entertainment and shopping. Any suggestions? We will be traveling this summer.Thanks!

South shore has the most casinos and a nice golf club right on the lake. The casino hotels are all very close together anf close to the golf so anyone you pick should be fine. People seem to like Harvey's a lot.

I'd consider the Hyatt on the North Shore. It has its own golf and casino with a handful of other casinos near by, and there are nice restaurants along the north shore. Also close to Truckee which would be fun for shopping. I can't think there is much great shopping though anywhere in Tahoe.

Hello Johnnyg, like Patrick I prefer the NorthShore of Lake Tahoe also. It seems so much more relaxing than SouthShore. But I am not a golfer so cannot comment on the golf courses. Enjoy!!

The north and west side of the lake are really the best. Not as "junked up" as
South Shore, also Tahoe City has some nice restaurants and some pretty good shopping. The Boatworks shopping center on the lake side has some really nice stores. Probably over priced as in most resort areas, but they pay a lot of rent too. I have found some really nice and unusual gifts for friends and family the times I've wandered on up there. The North Shore areas is much more laid back than South Shore..you don't get quite the same "buzz" but the Hyatt has a casino and there are some right over the CA line..so you can loose your money. :D If you go in the summer, actually any area around the lake can get pretty congested, but South Shore is just a zoo.

There is a golf course at South Tahoe if you walk from Harvey's to Horizon and continue on another block or 2, on the left. Not sure if open for public, though.

The golf course at south shore folks mention is Edgewood - where the annual American Century tournament is held. That is the one w/ all the active and retired pro athletes and other celebrities. I personally don't think it is worth the $250 greens fee.

But there are more courses at north shore - in Incline near the Hyatt are two good courses and there are others in Kings Beach. The championship course at Incline costs approx $150 and the Mountain course about $50.

Plus there is the course at Northstar, and several others. You will have a lot more courses to choose from at Northshore - plus Incline Village has good shopping, restaurants, the Hyatt casino and other casinos at Crystal Bay - including CalNeva which was once owned by Frank Sinatra.

And you'd only be 45 mins from Southshore so you could go down there one day to see the big 4 casinos down there.

Northshore would definitely be my choice.

There's some "outlets" at the Y. The Y is the intersection of 89 and 50. There's some boutique shops at the village around the Heavenly Gondola on Stateline Blvd. There's a small number of small shops in the bottom floor of a couple of casinos like Harvey's and Harrah's.

Kinda curious when you say "this summer" Johnnyg, are you referring to 2006?
