Lake Quinault Lodge

My birthday is in January. I would like to go somewhere restive and contemplative. We were thinking about spending 3 nights at Lake Quinault Lodge. I was there 30 years ago in September but I have no idea about what it’s like in the winter. We love rain and like to snowshoe if possible. I was thinking a few days to disconnect from the internet, read, hike and play cards would be just the thing. Any thoughts?

It's a good thing you like rain, as I expect it will rain every day you are there. It is very unlikely that you will get snow. You may or may not want to hike in the rain.

Certainly, it will be quiet, and no doubt you will feel disconnected.

Thanks Kathie. I can't tell from your reply if you think this is a good idea or not.

I was the winter caretaker at Lake Quinault Lodge for five years during the early seventies.
My memories of those years are foggy, probably due to the meds they give me here.
But, let me tell you, it's a fine time to visit. Just make sure you stay in your room after sunset.

I would go as we love this place. Our favorite time is to go in the late fall. The area is beautiful with the rain. For what you are looking for it sounds like it would be a perfect fit. Enjoy!

I doubt you will be snowshoeing there, but the rest of your wish list fits.

topeater, only you can tell whether it is a good idea for you.

True, you won't be snowshoeing there. It's a ways, but if you want to do that there are lots of places to go on the peninsula. Hurricane Ridge is only open on the weekends during the winter, but is a great place to do that. You need to go early as the parking lot fills up.

Not sure if you're open to other spots, but we just got back from Lake Crescent Lodge, and I think it fits the bill for what you're looking for. We loved Hurricane Ridge - really beautiful.

I've only been once and it was in the summer a few years ago.
They do have a lovely fireplace.

Lake Crescent Lodge is beautiful and the cabins overlooking the lake are lovely.
We were unimpressed with the food and service in the restaurant but it was summer and they were a little busy so I cut them some slack.

Hurricane Ridge is spectacular

Food was very good when we were there, but the service not as great; they seemed overwhelmed at times.
