LAKE POWELL ARIZONA

PLANNING A FAMILY VACATION TO LAKE POWELL ARIZONA. MOST LIKELY WE ARE RENTING AN RV ( WHICH WE HAVE NEVER DONE)(ANY COMMENTS?) AND DRIVING OUT FROM NJ. AT THIS POINT WE PLAN ON SPENDING 4 NIGHTS AT THE WAHWEAP LODGE..NO HOUSE BOATS AVAILABLE. IS THIS TOO LONG TO SPEND THERE. WE HAVE ABOUT 15 DAYS FOR OUR TRIP AND ARE PLANNING ON SEEING SOME OTHER SITES IN THE CIRCLE AS WELL. ANY COMMENTS!!!!THANKS

Four days at Warweep is excessive unless you spend the days on the lake. There is a full day excursion offered at Warweep but once that is done there is little else to do unless, again, you are on the lake. Time could be better spent visiting the Gr. CAnyon, Bryce, Zion, Arches and Monument Valley.

WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING AT US????
Please type in lower case.
All caps on the internet is considered rude---it's much harder to read.

Linda, I agree with the other poster. Unless you have something floatable, you wouldn't enjoy Lake Powell for more than a day. Do the excursion to Rainbow Bridge and go on to other places in Utah. First, though you may want to check with the other marinas - Bullfrog is one. Lake Powell is in UTAH too, you know!

My husband and I just visited the region last summer. The other posters are right. However, if you think you will get tired of being on the move, you can easily base yourself out of Wahweap for 4 days and spend the days traveling to the other sites. You are only a couple of hours from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and the other parks are within a couple of hours drive as well.

Hi Linda,
My family is also planning a southwest vacation. We're from upstate NY, and we'll be leaving the day the kid's summer vacation begins. Anyway, we looked into renting an RV, but decided on flying into SLC and renting an SUV instead. We'll be staying at the Wahweap Lodge for 2 nights. From the info I have gathered (here and Frommer's Utah & Arizona books), I think 2 nights at Lake Powell will be enough to see what there is to see.
Our first stop is Moab, then Lake Powell, Grand Canyon (north rim), Zion & Bryce (with a stop in Las Vegas in between) Make sure you look into all of what Utah has to offer. Read about Zion, Bryce, Escalante, Canyonlands, Arches, etc. This board is an excellent source of information. Do some searches and read everything!
I am so looking forward to our trip this summer --as I look out the window at the foot of snow we got Friday night :). E-mail me if you want to share itineraries. Patti

Hi Linda & Patti! Glad you're going to visit our wonderful state. Utah truly has the most varied scenery of any state. You'll love the red rock & canyonlands country. Remember it will be hot in summer & it's a dry land. Drink plenty of water & have extra in the car with you. Wear hats & sunscreen & be prepared for summer thunderstorms. Keep your gas tank 1/2 full - it can be a long stretch between stops. Last but not least - take LOTS of film, use a polarizing filter on your camera & if you have a manual option - stop down one F stop. The intense light will fool your automatic lightmeter & pictures can be washed out. Have fun!

I will be spending 2 nights at the Wahweap Lodge also. Thought I'd do the rainbow bridge tour, a float trip on the colorado river from Page to Lee's Ferry and then to Antelope Canyon. Anyone been to Antelope Canyon? Too much on the Lake? Can you swim on the Lake?
