unless you are into honkytonk scenes, steer clear of the village. look for places along rt 9 in diamond point and bolton landing.
|
also...i'd suggest the fort william henry hotel. right on the lake, very nice, price is good too. ask for a room on the lake, enjoy.

All I remember about Lake George is that it was beautiful, and the coldest water I have ever felt. Canadians, however, dove right in and made me really feel like a wimp!

Are you certain Ft William Henry is "on the lake"?
It seems to me that it's on a hill overlooking the lake, with a commercial street between it and the lake. No beach of it's own. It seems to be a nice place, but anyone who thinks they're going to be on the beach is wrong - I am certain. There are some motels on Rt 9 north of town that are on the lake .. but I can't think of the names. I share ediegirl's "love" of LkGeo |
We've had very hot weather up here this summer so the lake temp should be very nice for swimming.

The Sagamore looks like a beautiful resort on Lake George. Maybe someone else who has stayed here can comment. It is pricey though.
|
I'd stay at least one day, if not your entire trip, at the Sagamore. It's a fully restored grand hotel dating from the 1800s. DH and I have stayed here several times. If expense is no object, choose a room or suite in the historic hotel. If not, the Lodge rooms or suites are nice, too. It's just that you will have to walk or grab a ride to the hotel for meals and activities. It's not a big inconvenience. (See map http://www.thesagamore.com/resort/) Plan to take afternoon tea at least one day on the Vernada and, if possible, have dinner at the Trillium bis. We love this place, but generally go during shoulder season when rates are lower.
