Lake Geneva beach
Does Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, have a swimming beach for children to enjoy? If so, where on the lake is it located?

It's right in the town of Lake Geneva.

There are also public beaches in Williams Bay, and Fontana. I'm not sure about Fontana, but I always thought Williams Bay had the nicest of the three beaches on the lake, less crowded, and easier to find parking for. All three do charge an entrance fee, not sure what the current rate is, but I would plan on about $5.00/person. All three also have life guards on duty and roped off shallower swimming areas.

When are you coming? 6 months out of the year the "frozen tundra" makes the water cold and then it finally warms up just in time for the next snowfall. This aint no Caribbean

As a child and teenager I spent almost every summer afternoon swimming at Fontana's beach. I learned to swim by riding the little waves there up on the shore. The water depth is shallow and increases very gradually. There is a rope buoy all the way across the beach as the water gets deeper. Children are loudly dealt with by the life guards if they hold onto the buoys or try to cross over the line into the deeper water. There is TONS of nice sand to play in, so bring shovels and pails.
The one plus was that after 6:00 PM the town no longer charged admission. Most of the crowds are gone, sometime only a handful of people are on the whole beach. I think parking was also free. But, also no lifeguards are on duty. Kind of diagonal from the beach, across the parking lot and behind the businesses on the shoreline (Chuck's bar is one name I recall) is a wonderful park. Lot's of nice playground equipment. My children always enjoyed playing there. |
