LaGuardia to Long Island

Is it easy to take the LIRR from LaGuardia Aiport to Huntington on Long Island? Would like the easiest directions using cab and the train.

Here's a link to the LIRR map.

Huntington is on the Port Jefferson Branch. The closest stations to LGA are Forest Hills & Kew Gardens, which are about a 10-15min cab ride from LGA.

The follow the links at the top of the MTA website to take you to LIRR schedules

Sorry, the Woodside LIRR station is closer - 5-10min cab ride from LGA.

Getting from LGA on the LIRR seems like a pain. It might make more sense to take a shuttle. If you haven't booked a flight yet and are intent on taking the train, fly to JFK and take the AirTrain to the Jamaica station. Of course, another option would be to fly to Islip on LI.

All the options here are possible. Will you not need a car once you get to Huntington? You could rent a car.

You could also find a car service or taxi. I would estimate the ride would cost about $40. Here's a phone number from the LGA website for ground transportation info

If you do opt for the LIRR, take the taxi to Jamaica station. Not all trains stop at Woodside, Kew Gardens, and Forest Hills. You will be able to get a train on the Port Jefferson line easily at Jamaica.

I'm with mclaurie - you haven't said what you're doing on Long Island. Huntington isn;t a vacation area so it sounds either like you're visiting family - and can borrow a car - or on business - for which you'll have to rent a car.

Long Island - except for the LIRR in and out of the city - is a vast wasteland of almost no public transit.
