New York Tri State Area Closed

I know this is obvious to those of us who live here or nearby - or on most of the east coast.

But to anyone from other parts of the country or world who may be planning on transiting by air through NYC - it's not going to happen today or tomorrow. And expect significant delays after that.

This storm will have a massive ocean surge and it's happening at the same time as the lunar high tides - so water levels may rise as much as 8 to 12 feet. Besides creating havoc for locals in low lying areas - and possibly major electrical outages due to downed trees on power lines - both JFK and LGA are located adjacent to large bodies of water - and wind gusts over 80 mph are expected. So all transit is shut - including all airports and Amtrak is expected to do the same.

Do not assume you will get anything like normal travel conditions until late Wednesday at best. Stay in touch with your airline to see if they can reroute you - but don;t expect much.

We're hunkered down in our winter home, have boarded up our summer place, and put the sea door in the wall, 8 feet above sea level puts water at our window sills. Keep a good thought.

And, if you're already in the city, your opportunities for things to do are fading. For example, Broadway and off-Broadway shows have been cancelled for tonight and tomorrow night.
Then, there's Starbucks, which has closed all its outlets the city.

Can there possibly be anybody out there who doesn't know this by now? You would think not but I have to say I texted a friend who works for the Government and lives in Maryland on Friday asking him if he was ready for the "big storm." His response was, "What big storm?" and this guy claims to be some sort of IT wizard.
