Labor Day wkend - too hot for Palm Springs?

Okay, I know Palm Springs is hot, especially at the time of year in question (1st weekend in Sept). However, I am wondering if it is too hot - namely, is it even worth taking a trip there at that time of year? A friend who went last Labor Day weekend wants me to go with her this year, and I am hesitant (having made the mistake of spending time in FL in August a few years back and discovering it was too hot to even go swimming (b/c the ocean and pools were also warm)). Thoughts?

Thank you in advance.

It will be really hot. It just depends on what you want to do. Wake up early, enjoy the morning before 9:00AM. If you are a golfer, only play 9 holes and tee off at dawn. Relax in AC until sundown. Go shopping at the mall, catch a movie. If you go to the pool, it should be fine as long as you stay in the water the whole time. But then you run the risk of sunburn if you stay too long. The evenings are great though. After 8 there is nothing better than to sit out on a patio, looking at the stars.
