Labor Day weekend in New York City

How is this one for crowds, high hotel prices, etc?

Locals leave, tourists visit. Like every holiday weekend, the tourist spots are very crowded and hotel deals are tough to find.

Try Priceline.

And enjoy!

Labor Day is a very quiet time in the city. So, actually, good hotel deals are are a distinct possible as the time gets closer.

Quiet for locals maybe, who leave the city, but for tourists, it's crowded. Or at least that's what four of my friends from Va experienced last Labor Day when they had a tough time finding a midtown hotel for a decent price.

It will be HOT, HOT, HOT therefore most locals and tourists alike stay away! The city (by our standards) will be pretty empty Lab. Day Weekend. Booking far enough in advance, you shouldn't have a problem securing a room for a good price in one of the bigger hotel properties in Midtown.

As everyone has mentioned many locals leave - and many tourists arrive. Overall the city is less crowded than a regular weekend. But I haven;t followed hotel rates by day - so don;t know if there will be bargains or not. Try looking at a couple of major hotel sites and you'll see what they're anticipating.

In general, things are very slow in the city. Theater tickets are easy to come by, for example. And, you can actually get into some decent restaurants!

Thanks for all the replies. 5 of us just spent 4 nights in the city (ending up being there the week before Easter which I didn't realize before booking it - egads, it was busy) and want to return. It is possibly NYC or California wine country - I would think that wine country would be VERY busy over Labor Day weekend.

Yes, I know it could be quite HOT and steamy in NY in early September, that could have an effect on the plan too.

Thanks for the input.

i'd wait and come to NYC for columbus day weekend, yes it will be more crowded, but the weather will be SO Much more bearable.

I despise NYC in the heat...all the tall buildings just make me feel so smothered.
