Labor Day Weekend - Air Show
I was thinking of planning a trip to St. Louis for Labor Day weekend. I have a schedule that says the Blue Angels will be in St. Louis on Sat. Aug. 31st of this year. I have always wanted to see one of their air shows. Does anyone know the best place for viewing?

Apparently the Blue Angels will be at the "St Louis County Fair and Airshow" (8/31-9/2). To really see the performance you will need to buy tickets to the airshow. Those F/A-18 Hornets would be pretty small dots in the sky from anywhere else.

I would suggest contacting the St Louis Chamber of Commerce (www.stlrcga.org) or the Convention and Visitor's Commision (www.explorestlouis.com) for details.

The Blue Angels official website is at:
www.blueangels.navy.mil/index2.html
Thanks, Dave, the websites were very helpful. Now my only quandry is where to stay. I noticed that the fair is in Chesterfield, about 25 miles from St Louis. I want to see both so I was thinking of finding a place somewhere between. What about Clayton? Would that be convenient? Should we rent a car to travel to the fair only and rely on public tranport. when going into downtown? Also, is Clayton a good area of town? Thanks for the help!

Hopefully someone else can help. I live in NE and haven't visited STL since 1993 - my info came solely from a web search.

Hi Mary-Lynn. Maybe I can help a little with where to stay. Clayton is a VERY nice area to stay in. It is a business district, the courthouses, law firms, etc...excellent dining selections, some of the best in the area, and it is close to downtown. Chesterfield is a real nice area too, but if the only thing you are going to do is see the show out there Clayton might be a better choice. The Doubletree in Chesterfield though is right on the interstate that takes you to downtown and very nice.

The air show is supposed to be GREAT! One side note, since I am addicted to priceline, you may want to try and do your hotel through them. I know that the only hotel that has come up in Chesterfield, if you bid 3 star, is the Doubletree. Also the Clayton list that I have found is: 4 Star Seven Gables Inn
3 Star Best Western Inn at the Park 2.5 Star Residence Inn. (They could always add a new hotel, but that should give you a really good idea) It is a holiday weekend though so I don't know how much inventory they will offer. But it might save you some money on your trip.

Hope that helped!
Molly
