Labor Day traffic in Maine

My husband and I are flying into Manchester, NH then driving up the coast of Maine to Bath. Any suggestions on alternate routes/back roads that could help us avoid heavy traffic?

What day are you flying in? Monday? If that's the case you probably won't have too much traffic heading north. Most of hit will be heading south.

We are flying in tomorrow (Saturday) and heading back on Monday!

Be careful you do not get caught up in the migratory pattern of the lobsters.

They close the road to allow them to cross I-95 safely.

There are no true backroads into Maine. The tollbooths can really back up. Depending on when you arrive Saturday plan to drive into Maine early, mid-afternoon, or after dinner. Avoid peak if possible. Monday you'll need to leave Maine by 9am or late afternoon or be resigned to at least an hour spent at toll.
