Labor Day in N.O.

Is there a festival called Southern Decadence during Labor Day weekend? If so, is it similar to Fantasy Fest in Key West?

Southern Decadence is a gay-oriented festival over the Labor Day weekend. Tens of thousands attend annually...it's sort of a gay version of Mardi Gras. Not sure exactly how it compares to Fantasy Fest but I would imagine it's similar.

Anyone know how crazy it is?

You should check out southerndecadence.com for more information. And make reservations soon if you decide to visit!

WildBill - I live right in the heart of the gay district in the Quarter (a/k/a The Fruit Loop). Southern Decadence is not for the faint of heart. Anything goes! It's a lot of fun. We enjoy the Decadence crowd much more than the Mardi Gras crowd - totally friendly and non-judgmental crowd.

I'm straight, and non-judgmental, but I question if maybe another weekend would be a better time to go. Any thoughts?

There are better times to visit New Orleans, Southern Decadence notwithstanding...the heat is pretty intense during August/early September. Also, rates will be higher that weekend because of all the visitors who take advantage of the 3-day weekend. If you do decide to visit, however, keep in mind that Decadence activities are concentrated in one area of the Quarter and not in the main shopping/tourist areas. It's possible you can visit for the weekend and see very little of it!!

Hope this helps.

Allright, i have four nights at the Marriot for $50 a night. Good Deal? Good Hotel? Let me know, thanks!

If you got the Marriott on Canal Street for $50 a night, I'd run with it! That's a great deal, especially during a high-demand time. Actually, I'm a bit perplexed as to why they would offer it, but it's certainly good for you!
