LA to Grand Canyon by hwy 40

I will be driving from LA to Grand Canyon by hwy 40, as part of a loop (Monument Valey, Bryce Canyon) that will end in Las Vegas. This looks, at least at the map, like a dull 500 miles drive. Is there anything to see and stop by ?

If I have my numbers correct - from Flagstaff east- on 40 - after about 30 miles you have the Meteor Crater and anothe hour or so is the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest which all have good visitor centers/films.

Just west of Monument Valley/Kayenta on 167 is it? - you have the Navajo National Monument - which also has a good visitor center and after a short hike - you can look across the valley at the Cliff Dwellings.

Only 488 miles depending on where in LA you are coming from.
2 hours to Barstow (I-15/I40 split), 4.5 hours to Williams AZ and 1 hour north on 64 to the South Rim.
If you go to Bryce, be sure to include Zion.
When were you planning this trip? There may be snow blocking some of the roads in this region now.

Actually it's hiway 160 that goes to Kayenta/Monument Valley.

Also going east on 40 - and getting off for a little stretch on legendary/old Route 66 - you have Winslow Arizona - with the famous reference by the Eagles - "standing on a corner in Winslow Arizona" from their huge "Take It Easy" hit song.

Winslow / 66 - Painted Desert - Petrified Forrest drive does not seem to be part of LA - Grand Canyon, it goes 128 miles east from Flagstaff, so it would add 250 miles (both directions) to my trip.

My full planned itinerary is like this:
LA - Grand Canyon - Navajo Nat. Monument - Monument Valley - Antelope Canyon - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Hoover Dam - Las Vegas.
I am wondering how much time should I plan.

It seems like taking hwy 40 does not make sense, we may gain 40 miles, but paying price of a dull 500 miles long drive. Probably a better plan:

LA - Las Vegas - Hoover Dam - Grand Canyon - Navajo Nat. Monument - Monument Valley - Antelope Canyon - Bryce Canyon - Zion - Las Vegas.

1270 miles total.

So I guess I still don't understand what you were planning to do on Hiway 40 as part of a "loop to Monument Valley"? It's really not.
