LA Safety
I'm staying in West Hollywood at the end of August w/ some friends - 4 girls from NYC in our 20's just looking to be in the middle of things and have a good time. One of my friends is all freaked out becasue a coworker told her that he wouldn't stay in West Hollywood at night, it's not safe, blah blah blah. I'm not too worried, I know sometimes these things are all a matter of opinion... But I just wanted to get some input from other people out there so I can calm my friend down! Thanks,

not true, not true! It's boys town, if anything it's SAFER for women. I lived there 6 months, and i have friends who've lived there years. The only thing is noise on weekends if you're staying east of la cienega, on la cienega.
You'll be fine. enjoy |
Absolutely safe in West Hollywood (WeHo). The worst crime is gay-bashings, so a bunch of young women should be just fine. Your friend's co-worker is completely wrong.
Now, where are you "girls" staying? If you're staying around the Santa Monica Blvd. immediate area, you will indeed be in the heart of "Boy's Town"-- i.e., the gay section of WeHo. The "straight scene" bars there are centered on Sunset Blvd. and Melrose Ave. For a good list of what to do, the first thing to do is hit the www.laweekly.com website just before you leave (preferably on a Thursday) to get the weekend's events. If you don't have time to do that, grab a FREE copy of the "LA Weekly" wherever you find it. |
West Hollywood is one of my favorite neighborhoods in LA. You will be perfectly safe while you are out for the evenings. There are many police officers out to stop cruising on Sunset, so you won't have any problems at all. Just tell your friend to relax and enjoy your trip.

Thanks everyone for confirming what I already thought! We are staying on Sunset Blvd so I'm looking forward to a good time. I'm used to the noise and the crowds from where I live anyway....
