I am surprised there is no sign at the pool stating the rules. I live in a condo building and I am pretty sure I am not allowed to have alcohol in the pool area.

When you want to drink somewhere it's not allowed, like a public beach or park, and as already mentioned by a few folks here, just put your beverage-of-choice in a water bottle or other discreet container. Unless you get to acting foolish no one will question this.
