La Mesa--Santa Barbara CA

We are thinking of renting a house for a week this summer in Santa Barbara. The one we have found is located in "La Mesa." Is anyone here familiar with Santa Barbara who could tell me how close this area is to SB--is it a nice area? Would it be an area in which one would want to vacation?

Santa Barbara is quite a large town. If you want to be walking distance to the beach or to downtown, you'll need to check a map very carefully. Many houses in Santa Barbara are not close to either. Sorry I don't know details of La Mesa area, but from the name if I had to guess I'd say it's not close to either the beach or downtown. But that's just a guess. A map is key! Not to discourage you, though, as Santa Barbara is one of my favorite spots on the planet and a week there in the summer sounds delightful. There's something for every age to enjoy too.

I am a native Californian and I do not know of any place called La Mesa in or near Santa Barbara. There is a La Mesa near San Diego.

More information..... I just talked to friend of mine that lives in Santa Barbara. There is an area in Santa Barbara that is called The Mesa. It is about 2 miles from the beach and is located in a very nice area, high on a bluff, close to Santa Barbara City College. I hope this is better information.
