Start off in LA for 2 nites. No accomodation booked yet for LA.Will try & drive to San D.How long would that take?
Getting married in LV Friday 22nd Sept. Have got 6 nites - 2@TI & 2@Luxor & 2@?- havent booked last 2 nights yet... can't wait.. will miss the Olympics which is a shame.. but looking forward to seeing it on cable over in your country. LV sounds brilliant. I am looking forward to all the buffets, I love good food.

My girlfriend likes alot of the american talk shows. Do you know if any film out of LV? Does anyone know if "Ricky" or "Jerry" films out of LA? I'd love to surprise my girlfriend and get her tickets.

Would appreciate all your opinions re: what to do after our six days in LV. We will have a car and must be in LA 9 days after we leave LV to fly back to Oz.

Can I pls hear your suggestions of where to go. We have 9 days to play with and dont want to be rushed off of our feet. Like the sound of ending the trip by driving down the Californian coast, any recom from those that have done it or anyone with info on links etc. Pls excuse my ignorance as i am not sure of distances from LV to other places like Yoesmite or Lake Tahoe or SF. Anyone aware of where I could download maps on these area so I can put it all into prospective.

Finally, what is the weather usually like in California and Nevada in late Sept??

Look forward to your reply, Thank You.

howie
Howie, Having a bit of a problem understanding what you want here, but can tell you that the weather in September will be stellar! LA to San Diego, depending on the time of day, would be about 1-2 hours. San Diego to Las Vegas would be about another 2 hours, again, it depends on the time of day, the day you travel and whether there's any accidents or road repairs. If I had days after Las Vegas to go somewhere, I would either head to the Grand Canyon and Sedona or back up to Yosemite. It's a lot of driving. Suggest you get a good guide book for the Western U.S. Think for your honeymoon you need to plan ahead and start right now. Congrats.

I would drive North to Bryce Canyon, Utah (about 3 hours from LV) and stay at Ruby's Inn, a motel right at the entrance. Spend a day at Bryce, then drive over to Moab, stay there a night and visit Arches National Park.

As far as buffets in Vegas, I don't know if they offer what I would call "good food" but the Rio is supposed to have a good buffet.

I think "Jerry" is filmed in Chicago and as far as I know there aren't any talk shows filmed in Vegas.

I would allow 2 1/2 hours from LA to SD, but depends on traffic. You might want to go the coast route by Laguna Beach.

I think the weather's going to be very nice that time of year, howie, and I wish you the best.

Try www.mapquest.com for maps. I think most people will suggest staying in the Nevada?Utah area and visitimg Bryce/Zion/Grand Canyons, or Yosemite if you're willing to drive a lot. (Keep in mind that the Western US is big, so driving means a lot of time/miles--not unlike Australia, I guess!) If you do decide on Yosemite, it is wonderful in September, and much less crowded than in (our) summer. If you want to visit any of the the National Parks and stay within them (most have various levels and sorts of lodges/hotels), you should try to reserve as soon as you can. Start by looking at www.nps.gov (National Park Service web site).

Re the Olympics: I doubt you'll see much on cable, as coverage here is usually exclusive to a network (NBC I think), and from what I understand, it's much more limited than what's shown in many countries. Unfortunately, the US coverage really concentrates on US athletes. There was some criticism about this in '96 though, so maybe they'll do better in that area.

I see someone has a 'best buffets" post going here about LV--maybe you should check it out!

And, by the way, congratulations!

It takes about 5+ hours from San Diego to Las Vegas and NOT 2 as someone else reported. The weather should be pretty good in both California and Las Vegas.
