The Crab Catcher has a view you wouldn't believe - and the food is great. it is very sophisticated and upscale, but dress these days esp in summer is always smart casual. Another great place is the Edgewater Grill in Seapport Village. There are also lots of Italian restaurants on Prospect St.

Congrats!

I was lucky enough to grow up in La Jolla so I will give you a local's perspective.

Stay at the Grande Colonial; you can walk down to La Jolla Cove, Boomer's Beach, Children's Beach etc. or to the main drag (Prospect St.).

For lunch, don't miss Girard Gourmet. Harry's for breakfast is fine, but crowded. Cody's is another popular option.

For a special dinner, George's at the Cove (dining room) or the Marine Room. Yes, they're expensive, but they're worth it.

I can't think of anywhere in "the village" that rents bikes, but your hotel will help.

Have fun!

I agree that Harry's is always crowded. But between the outside seating and the counter, we have never had to wait for a table and the service is great. You might have to wait just a bit for the food, but it is so worth the wait. Everything there is quality and fresh. They even offer fresh sauteed of steamed spinich for breakfast. And the menu is huge. I like that you can have a rueban for breakfast if you want. Not good for the waist line, but, you are on vacation, right?
