La Jolla trip-restaurants?
Hi-
My family is going to La Jolla for a week from December 26th-January 1st. 10 of us and everyone over 21. We are looking for suggestions for restaurants in the area, things to do in La Jolla or San Diego. Have never been there before. We are staying at the La Jolla Inn. Any information would be GREAT! Thank you in advance! |
HI..
La Jolla Inn is a great small place with a perfect location next to La Valencia Hotel and in the heart of the village so there is alot of different restaurants to choose from..I love George's at the Cove which is a block away on Prospect and I like to eat on the Terrace level..great food and stunning views..Alfonso's for Mexican and Crab Catcher for great Seafood Happy Hour..I like to have Marg's and Nachos at Jose's Court room and drinks at the Whaling Bar at La V or Marine Room at LJ Beach and Tennis Club. You are going to have so much fun! Maybe go whale watching, Birch Aquarium, Torrey Pines Glider Port, Torrey Pines State Reserve or the Golf Course..great Museum of Contemporary Art in LJ too.. georgesatthecove.com crabcatcher.com marineroom.com sdhe.com |

I just came back on Saturday from a week-long stay in La Jolla (we stayed at the Grande Colonial). This was our second trip this year and we had a blast. For La Jolla dining I'd recommend:
The Cottage: It's only open for breakfast and lunch during the winter. I highly recommend the oriental chicken salad and the crab melt. Their food is so great, I purchased a copy of their cookbook! Come On In Cafe: Further down on Torrey Pines, it's a place locals frequent regularly. The service is friendly, the prices are reasonable and the food is great. We had two dinners there in a week we liked it so much. Trattoria Acqua: Great Italian food. We celebrated my 30th birthday there in January and had another memorable meal there during our trip. The shrimp and scallops with the tomato fettuccine is delicious! 910: Since we were staying at the Grande Colonial we had breakfast there almost daily. The service is excellent and the food is outstanding. If it's warm enough, sit outside or chose a table inside near the windows and soak in the sun. I also second the recommendations for Brockton Villa and the Crab Catcher. We enjoyed both very much! Our time in La Jolla was mainly spent shopping in the village and walking along the beach. We used the village for our base and then drove to the other activites we had planned in San Diego, such as the Zoo (two trips), Balboa Park, a trip to Coronado to take in some spa treatments at the Del and do a little shopping, and a trip to visit several wineries just north of San Diego. The whale watching cruise is a good idea as well. We did that on our last trip in January and were surprised at the number of whales and dolphins we saw. Enjoy your trip! We had such a good time, we're already planning another visit for December, 2007. |
If you like Asian food, Roppongi in downtown La Jolla would be fun for a large group. They have outdoor tables (and heaters if needed). Their appetizers/tapas are better than the main courses (imo) but very good I thought.
http://www.roppongiusa.com/home.html If you go to Torrey Pines, dress nicely and have lunch at the Lodge at Torrey Pines. The patio is more casual and relaxed than the dining room. http://www.lodgetorreypines.com/vr/i...entien%20Patio The Prado restaurant at Balboa Park (great museums and gardens in addition to the zoo) is surprisingly good. http://www.balboapark.org/in-the-par...l.php?OrgID=63 Some of the museums in the park are free on Tuesdays. http://www.balboapark.org/calendar/d...hp?EventID=370 Do make sure to visit Coronado and the famous Hotel Del Coronado, famous for being a location in the movie "Some Like It Hot." Might be fun to watch the movie before you go. |
We stayed 3 nights at the Del and I highly suggest you go over and take a look att he place. 1500 Ocean was amazing for dinner. My husband had a massage at their spa which he enjoyed very much. The views going over the bridge are very pretty. :)
In La Jolla, we enjoyed relaxing at the cove and the grassy park area there. The sunset was beautiful from this area before our dinner at George's at the Cove which I highly recommend. We also enjoyed the great shopping on Prospect and the Crab Catcher has some really great clam chowder. SeaWorld is a great place to spend the day. We were there on a Mon. and felt like we had the park all to ourselves. Take the tram ride over Mission Bay, it is very relaxing and scenic. Have fun, La Jolla is absolutely gorgeous! ***kim*** ((f)) |
