La Jolla trip

We will be travelling to La Jolla/San Diego mid Feb. My husband has a conference at Hilton Torrey Pines. My question, we are bringing our 2 1/2 year old and my mother in law with us. I have looked into the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club for a nice 2 bdrm suite. Would that be the best option for us as a family, or would you reccommend the Hilton or other nearby hotel?

The Hilton Torrey Pines is on a mesa 300 feet above the ocean with no easy access (the beach below is the local nude beach anyway). It's a beautiful area, but what's there is a golf course and lots of biotech firms, not much for kids to do.

The Beach and Tennis Club is down near the 'village', at sea level, lots of shops and restaurants nearby. So I think it would be better, but it is worth heading down the road a mile or so from the Hilton and seeing Torrey Pines State Reserve, lots of short hikes with views of the ocean, the beach is "family" oriented.

Thanks for the helpful hints!

The La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club would be a very comfortable place to stay as a family. While the decor was a little dated when we stayed there (in a 1-bedroom suite), the suite was well-equipped, large, and very comfortable. The location is right on the beach, and there is a pool, tennis and pitch-and-putt golf. It was easy to walk to restaurants and shops from that location as well, with most of the area's other attractions within driving distance.

Skier, I'm going with my husband to a conference at the Hilton Torrey Pines from February 5th-9th, is that the same timeframe?

I just posted a few days ago, my husband already booked a room at the Hilton since he wants to stay onsite. My kids are teenagers and will be staying home with my mom and going to school.

I think the downfall of the Hilton is that it's not right on the beach or in town, but I'm just going to walk on the hiking trails and drive into town, if I had a 2 year old I'd much rather be on the beach.

Click on my name and read the responses I got about weather though, maybe I'll see you in La Jolla!
