La Jolla to San Diego
As far as travel-time with car, avoiding rush hour, is it too far to stay in La Jolla for family vacation visit to San Diego? La Jolla appears to have some nice hotels for somewhat less than one would pay in San Diego. We have 3 full days/4 nights in August. Suggestions or comments? Hotel suggestions? Thanks

La Jolla is San Diego. The city of San Diego is comprised of many different areas, La Jolla, Pacific Beach, Hillcrest, etc... so where in San Diego did you want to go?
If you are finding cheaper rates in La Jolla you are either staying in a dump or the UTC area which is not near the beach/village or you found a great bargain.

la jolla to the san diego zoo is about a 15 minute drive. as stated above, if you are finding cheap rates, i doubt you are looking in "downtown" la jolla. there are some hotels on la jolla village drive but they are inland several miles in a residencial/business area.

What hotels are you talking about? The only budget hotels in La Jolla are the Best Western Inn by the Sea and the Village Lodge (formerly travel lodge). If you're considering the Radisson or Residence in they are in business areas right by the highway or busy streets. If you're looking at La Jolla Marriot or Embassy Suites La Jolla they are not in La Jolla (Look at their mailing address - it's San Diego). Still from downtown la jolla to SD zoo is about 20 minutes from the other areas mentioned above about 15 minutes.
