la jolla / San Diego
 

I will be staying at the Hyatt Regency -La Jolla 1st wknd in May. Any must do's / see's for the area? Also nearby night life??? i have a couple free days during my stay so hope to see some neat things. <BR>thanks

If you've never been, go the San Diego Zoo. It's spectacular.

I no longer live in San Diego but Cafe Japengo was next door to the Hyatt and was a great spot for Asian/Japanese food. It was also popular for nightlife.

Palomino Restaurant across from the Hyatt is also quite good. Did you know that you're not acutally in La Jolla? You're east of it and quite a ways from the ocean. Be sure you've got a rental car. See the zoo and/or wild animal park (north of San Diego and about 20-30 minutes from where you're staying). Sea World is very nice, as well. For night life, drive to downtown San Diego and visit restaurants and night clubs in the Gaslamp area (5th between approximately Market and D or E).

Very true -- you're not really near either the ocean or La Jolla; the Hyatt is on top of a hill overlooking it all, but several miles away. The only sights within walking distance are the UCSD campus and some shopping malls. You'll need some kind of transport if you want to enjoy the rest of the attractions in San Diego on your days off.
