Is Roppongi's the best asian/sushi in the area?

wordsmith Jan 17th, 2012 09:02 AM

Also, what is best fish (local) in the area, or near San Diego?

Roppongi's had good sushi/asian fusion. For fish - hard to beat the Fish Market downtown - and upstairs - the Top of the Market is the gourmet area.

Also - the Oceanaire in the Gaslamp used to be very good - but the Chef/owner - Brian Malarkey was it - sold. It's still probably pretty good - as are others in the Gaslamp. (see below)

Turlocks - off Nobel - across 5 - had some of the best Chilean Sea Bass we have ever had.

However for the best view/setting - Island Prime - close to the airport - on Harbor Island on the bay is incredible. They also have a happy hour/cocktail hour menu on the rear deck - C Level - that is a super bargain. http://www.cohnrestaurants.com/menu-.../island-prime/

For outstanding fish
I personally think El Pescador on Pearl St. in La Jolla has the best seafood. It has locally caught fish coming in the back door, which is cut up and put into the front cases for people to buy to take home or you can order from a menu.
It is not fancy but is delicious!

Another fun place is Pt. Loma Seafood.

Again they bring the fresh caught fish right off the boats next door to the marina and serve up fresh fish in the front. The food is great as well.

I am sometimes in La Jolla on my own for only a night or two. My favorites have been:

-the rooftop bar/dining at Georges for the view - especially at sunset in good weather.

-The Cottage....wonderful for brunch.

- Brockton Villa...especially cozy on a cool night.

- definitely walk through La Valencia and stop for a drink if just for the atmosphere. It's beautiful.

Don't forget to check out Windansea Beach at the end of Nautilus Street. It is beautiful and fun to watch the surfers.>

You take me back to my childhood... I smiled. :)

Is Pescadore more of a lunch or dinner place? Could we eat there later at night about 9?
