LA in 1.5 days. Something different to do?
 

I was in LA a few months ago and done pretty much all of the touristy stuff such as an LA bus tour, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Hollywood Blvd., etc. The only thing I didn't do was some sort of movie tour. So, with that being said I will be in LA in a few days for a total of 1.5 days. Is there anything off the beaten path for us to do? We are into photography and such so taking pics is a must:) Just trying to see what others recommend that maybe I have overlooked or not heard about. Any advice is appreciated!

Not sure if you're into viewing photography as much as taking, but I like the Annenberg Space for Photography -- usually has some really well done exhibits and hardly anyone seems to know about it. (http://www.annenbergspaceforphotography.org/)

The Getty Center has an amazing collection + stunning views, especially at sunset. The Getty Villa is even more beautiful, but that's in Malibu so maybe a little too far out your way (http://www.getty.edu/visit/)

I agree the Griffith Observatory is great (http://www.griffithobs.org/) -- unfortunately with budget cuts going forward it's closed on Mondays & Tuesdays :(

3 terrific gardens - LA Arboretum, Descanso Gardens and Huntington Library and Gardens if you wanted a day photographing majestic oaks, lilac, palms, spring flowers, peacocks, cactus, cherry blossoms, Japanese gardens. Take time to smell the roses. Enjoy a day in Pasadena and surrounding areas - visit the gardens, Gamble House and enjoy a nice meal or two. If you want to splurge stay at the Langham Huntington hotel, otherwise in Pasadena there is a Westin, Sheraton and Marriott Residence Inn.

Not a photography destination, but the Museum of Jurassic Technology is very interesting.

Another vote for the Huntington Library and Gardens. You don't say when your visit is, but the wisteria are now in bloom. Unfortunately, the Japanese Garden will be closing April 4th for a year-long renovation.

Also, the two Gettys. FYI, you need a timed parking reservation in order to visit the Getty Villa in Malibu.

Huntington Gardens (also a library and art gallery) is one of my favorite places: peaceful and beautiful!

ditto on the huntington library, and staying at the Langham. I also loved having high tea at the Huntington library.

I find many parts of Pasadena very photogenic.... even a walk down the main drag of Old Town Pasadena on Colorado ave.

I recommend an afternoon at Santa Anita. It is one of the horse racing tracks shown in the movie Seabiscuit. It is one of the top tracks in the country and you will see some beautiful horses, especially on a Saturday when the big races are held.

The building is something to see, inside and out. Horses with jockeys in colorful silks. Closeups in the stalls, the walking ring, the path to the track. Shots during the post-parade and during the race, of course. Winners circle. The runners cooling down.

It has an attractive infield (the area inside the track oval) that you can reach via a tunnel from the grandstand. And a mountain range as a backdrop under a (usually) clear blue sky.

If you are at all a science nerd, La Brea Tar pits are very interesting.

I like photographing the Disney Concert Hall , add the Bradbury Building, & inside the Grand Central Market.
