Next. The Hollywood sign.

I see no point in hiking anywhere to view the Hollywood sign. It's sorta big and easy to see from many vantage points, delineated here.

You'll notice that the Observatory is one of them. Get some lunch there, at "The Cafe at the End of the Universe" and sit outside on the veranda for the view. (If you've read "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", you'll 'get' the name of the Cafe.)

Have them make your sandwich to order, rather than picking up a pre-packaged one.

Hi guys! I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice and let you know what we did. We were busy!

We got in late afternoon on Sunday, rented a convertible (because we're dorks...but it was awesome!), and went out to dinner at a little pizza place with our hosts. Sorry, I didn't note the name.

On Monday, we hit it hard. We went out to Grand Central Market and wandered a bit and had breakfast at Eggslut. My egg sandwich was sublime- soft, curdy scrambled eggs, oh my! We also grabbed some granola for a snack later at Valerie and some iced chai at G&B Coffee. The granola was excellent, the chai not so much. A bit bitter, actually.

Next, we went to Griffith Observatory. Closed Mondays but worth it for the views! After that, we headed to LACMA. I'm a huge museum buff and it didn't disappoint. Lots of indoor and outdoor exhibits...and tasty macarons in one of the cafés. What? I like to eat ;)

We stopped and In and Out since we don't have them at home. It's fast food but pretty good.

The afternoon was spent at the Getty Villa and it's so utterly peaceful there. I tried to think of a good way to hide and stay forever :)

After that, we went down to the beach near the Getty Villa and ran around in the water and watched the sun go down. Very pretty but I prefer my Blue Ridge Mountain sunsets.

Dinner at the Border Grill in Santa Monica was good but not great. I had a nice pork dish but it wasn't especially interesting. The salsa trio before the meal was worth the trip though. Delicious!

Thanks for posting about your trip, Hobbert. Sounds like you really used your time well. The Getty Villa is a favorite place of ours, too.
