LA Dinner at the Beach
Looking for a fun fab spot for a friday night dinner in LA with a big group. Something classic SoCal, within a 40mins ride from Bev Hills. Something like a Gladstones Malibu. Private space maybe, definitely on the water.

Goin to Gladstones...

Did you know Gladstones has had a facelift, new menu and pricing? It is more upscale now, but looks good.
We like the Charthouse Malibu best. Also the Shutters Hotel has their nice Ocean grill. Really great value and fun place for a group would be Tony P's in Marina del Rey. Great covered patio, oceanside. My shrimp platter had two skewers of large shrimp, fresh veggies and rice pilaf (or tomato), for just $15.95. Great deal. Fun place. Not stuffy. |
Yes the upgrade to Galdstones is what attracted me to the space. We are staying at Shutters so would def want to leave the hotel. Chart House...is that the chain restaurant?

Shutters is a gorgeous hotel. Lucky you!
Yes, the Charthouse in Malibu is part of the chain. This one we first went to in the early 70s. It is still going strong. Has been maintained and updated. |
While the Malibu Charthouse is part of the chain that started in Colorado (I think), it is one of the earliest restaurants opened, soon after the Charthouses in San Diego opened up.
The Malibu Charthouse is really one of those great memory places that we still enjoy going to on a warm, sunny evening in L.A. You can walk down to the beach right below it -- great views; almost magical at dusk when the sun hits the water, then dips below the horizon. They do have room for large parties. Although I like the firepit sunken lounge after the remodel, and the food is still really good for a chain, I will confess I miss the old salad bar that was one of the Charthouse's early trademarks. They had one of the best salad bars in town! |
