LA Area Gas Prices

For anyone visiting LA this weekend (and maybe into next week): The Phoenix gasoline delivery debacle is pushing gas prices in the LA area through the roof. Driving into work today, I saw a Marina del Rey Shell station charging $2.119 for Regular Unleaded. Note that Arco charges a couple of cents less-- and a new discount vendor called Valero even less.

I bought gas in West Hollwood last night for the whopping price of $2.27/ gallon for 87 octane unleaded.

:-(

I just paid $2.00 for regular unleaded at COSTCO in San Diego!

martytravels Aug 22nd, 2003 09:54 AM

Whew! And I'm complaining about $1.68 in Michigan!

We paid $1.89 for Costco unleaded regular last night in LA Area but expect it is up today - seems like gas is up 5- 10? everyday. We were also in South Orange County last night and most stations were showing prices in the $2.03-$2.09 range for regular. Hope we don't gas lines like Phoenix. Been there done that!! UGH!!

Paid $2.19/gal last night for Union 76 89 Octane in San Jose.

J_Correa: I shudder to think what gas is going for in San Francisco....

OK you asked-I saw $2.15 out on 19th Avenue (near GG Park yesterday). Didn't need gas then, but this AM here in lovely Sonoma County - $2.07. Where did I read "they" expect $2.30 by Labor Day?
Anyone else read/hear the same?

Lovejoy Aug 22nd, 2003 02:48 PM

It's $2.11 today on the Monterey Peninsula .

Hey, don't complain! In Vancouver the price of gas has gone from the equivilant of $1.80 per US gallon ($.69CAN/Litre) at the begining of August to now over $2.35, ($.899/litre). That's the highest in Canada and it's been jercking back and forth as much as 10 cents /litre in one day but this last week it's just been climbing to unheard of hights. While it's nice to know we're not alone in our misery I still have to ask - What the hell is going on???

Gas prices are expected to continue to rise for the next few weeks, at least. In part, it is due to some Northeast refineries being down for a period die to the blackout.

However, the reality is that the oil companies and the oil refiners are getting some of their highest margins ever. My suggestion, buy a decent oil company stock and at least get some of your money back.

Be glad you aren't here in Phoenix. We had a gas station charging $4.95 a gallon. Most prices for regular unleaded are anywhere from $1.99 to $2.50. At least the lines are pretty much over.

Here in Connecticut the Gas prices made the news last night as the lead story. The average raise in gas prices here was 20 cents a gallon over a 12 hour period. They are blamming the black out, and explosion in Iraq and most of all the upcomming holiday weekend. HIgh Teast can run upto 2.27 a gallon here in Greenwich

Y'all better come on down Georgia way..Last night prices for regular unleaded were $1.479
Haven't been out today(it's too hot), so don't know the prices this morning!

Just paid $1.67/gallon for plus. And this is in Austin,Texas, they said that it's more expensive in HOUSTON. How that can be given the enormous number of refineries in the area, I simply don't know. It's sure not costing them more to ship it, that's for sure ;)

As for the $4.95/gallon, how can that not be illegal. Considering they went with a vengeance after profiteers of that sort after 9/11, and other disasters, how can they not be clamping down on a gas station doing the same thing?

The highest gas I've seen was on Saturday in Martinez, CA - $2.499 for a gallon of Shell 89 Octane, I think the 92 Octane was $2.659.

The prices change all day long here in northern CA. Coming home from work on Thursday the ARCO was $1.86. Later that afternoon the price had jumped to $1.95. Got gas across the street from it at Safeway for $1.92 with my Safeway card. By Saturday it was up to $2.01. Don't know what it is today!

We here in the States are just getting a taste of what it's like to drive in Europe, where the price is routinely about $4-$5 a gallon.

All the more reason for people with SUVs to switch to golf carts! :)
