LA Area-Family Friendly Accomidations
 

Hello-
We (Husband and two 7yo boys) are going to Los Angeles in Feb 2017.
Do you have any family friendly recommendations for accomidations and eateries?

Several years ago I stayed at the Farmer's Daughter Hotel on Fairfax which I'd consider but do check current reviews on Trip Advisor or booking.com. The location is central and a big plus, it's right across the street from the original Farmer's Market, a fun place to feed kids.

My DS, DIL and 3 Grandkids live in Stevenson Ranch near Newhall. When we visit, we stay at the Extended Stay on the Stevenson Ranch side of I-5. I'm sure your boys would love Six Flags Magic Mountain.
There are a few good places to eat in the Santa Clarita/Newhall area.
If you wanted to take public transportation into Los Angeles, you could ride the Metrolink Antelope line.

The Extended Stay has a full kitchen with full size fridge, range, sink, pots, pans, silverware etc.

Can you be more specific about area? LA is a big place.

I was going to suggest one of the Disneyland hotels, but it's an even bigger stretch than Magic Mountain to call it the LA Area. :)

What is your budget per night for lodging and will you have a car? Impossible to get to Six Flags without a car. Disneyland would be better suited for 7 year olds IMO.

You for sure need a car to go anywhere in Los Angeles County.
Funny - today happens to be my grandson's 7th birthday.
He would rather go to Magic Mountain than to Disneyland. He has been both places and to Knott's Berry Farm.
If LA is your code word for going to see the Mouse, that's OK.

Newhall is hardly what I would call staying in the LA area. But I would make some list of what you want to do and see, and then look for one of the suite/ extended stay hotel chains. Since you will most likely need a car, you could stay a bit outside LA proper. Not Newhall.

The greater Los Angeles metropolitan area is-- dare I say it again-- larger than many COUNTRIES.

Without some idea as to what you want to see/do/accomplish in this huge, sprawling, chaotic region, no one can give you coherent help or advice. And without some kind of idea as to price ranges for lodging and prices/tastes in food, no one can offer real help there either. There are probably HUNDREDS of hotels/motels/B&Bs and TENS OF THOUSANDS of restaurants that could be chosen. And MILLIONS of things to do.

Please come back with a few specific ideas, and we can help you out.

But I'll just put this out there: No matter where you end up staying in this area, you WILL need to rent a car. Accept it and steel yourself for the traffic snarls; it's part of LA life.

Tom stays in Newhall . . . Because his family lives near there. Unless you also have family there, there is no reason to consider staying way out there. ;)


But there are (literally) thousands of family friendly hotels/motels and restaurants spread over hundreds and hundreds of square mikes.

Budget, and what you plan on seeing/doing?

Usually I recommend staying in Anaheim for the time you will be at Disneyland.

Then pick a hotel close to the LA sights you want to see.

Probably in February I wouldn't recommend staying at the beach, the extra traffic isn't worth it in winter.

You might first start with Marriott which has several Residence Inn type hotels in LA.

Be sure to factor in the cost of parking if you decide to rent a car.
