Once you have the membership, check out their car rental prices!
Also, don't forget the sports equipment; might be cheaper to buy there than rent, if you find something that works (snorkel, etc.).

Thanks Sylvia, I had planned to check out car rental prices but hadn't thought of buying snorkel equipment....good idea to check.

The problem with buying sporting equipment at Costco is that they usually only carry one brand and when it comes to masks - one size does not always fit all.

I always encourage people to at least take their own masks (which you will have hopefully properly purchases/tried on several to make sure it fits tight - and at least tried out in the pool) - or rent from a Snorkel Bob's type - who will hopwdully fit you properly- or exchange you into something else if what you rent is not working.

By "there" I didn't mean Costco, although they do have a pretty good US Divers silicone set right now.
BTW, the rental shop at Waikoloa (Queen's side) will do a rent to own package on request.

I love your solution to crankiness, Kureiff! :D

I'm enjoying your report! I especially like your little girl's love for the hotdog!

Ahh sylvia3. Good suggestion and renting a snorkel package to own seems like something to check out. I just saw an add for here at a Big 5 Sporting Goods store (or was it Sport's Chalet") for a pretty good looking/decent quality (not flimsly) snorkel mask and fins set for something like $39 - but taking the fins over means more luggage space.

Somehow - I find that coming back from places - I can cram more stuff in - but who knows these days how strick the airlines are for carry on weights - or that "extra" personal tote?

BTW - Kureiff: Can you put another one on the Barbie? :)

Looking forward to hearing more from KUREIFF.

Kureiff, if you're still here: did someone HAVE to stay in the kayak for others to get in and out? Meaning, did you have to take turns snorkeling?

kureiff Jul 2nd, 2012 07:31 AM

Sylvia, no, I think you could get in and out of the kayak without anyone sitting in it. We took turns snorkeling so the kayak wouldn't float away. :)

kureiff, what a difference a week or two makes. I thought about your great trip report and your fun day kayaking when I heard this tragic report.

How awful! It's hard to imagine as when we were there the Bay was so calm. We whitewater raft a lot, and I am very cautious around water because it's so powerful. It is certainly true that conditions can change so quickly, and I can't imagine how this family must feel.

Lookin_Glass Jul 10th, 2012 07:29 PM

how sad for the family that his body has not been recovered. There is much sadness and much aloha to this story of community and a family that in their healing wants to educate ocean safety and not call a lawyer.

malama pono kureiff

take care
