Kosher in NYC

Hi all

We shall be in NYC for 5 days at the end of May and are looking for recommendations re nice kosher restaurants/deli's for lunch and dinner - nothing too expensive but not too cheap either. We are staying at the Crowne Plaza At The United Nations so would prefer (for the evening's) to be not too far from the hotel, however, if a restaurant is particularly recommended, we would get a cab to anywhere within Manhattan. Type of food isn't an issue, although would like to try Chinese as well as the more traditional style eateries.

You'll get a lot of responses by posting this on the Manhattan board at www.chowhound.com

Ben's Kosher Deli - W. 38th near Broadway
Mr. Broadway - W.36th and Broadway
Siegel's - 84th and 2nd Ave.
Va Bene - 81st and 2nd Ave - Italian

I think Sarge's Deli is Kosher. It is on 3rd Avenue between 36th and 37th Streets, a short walk from the hotel

Here's a list of restaurants that are nearish to your hotel and kosher. The only one I've heard is good (but you can read reviews) is Wolf & Lamb which is a steak house.

I think the closest GOOD kosher deli would be Ben's Kosher on the west side. Tevere is a nice Italian on the upper east side and Va Bene I think is owned by the same people (also Italian). Yonah Schimmel's Knishes on the lower east side is famous.

Kosher deluxe on west 46th st b/w 5th & 6th wouldn't be far at all and it's deli and Chinese. Pongal (2 locations) is Indian and kosher. Levana is "new American" and seems to get very good reviews on menupages.

I agree Chowhound is a good place to get more specific recommendations.

Forgot to mention Mendy's kosher deli and separate kosher dairy inside Grand Central Terminal wouldn't be far from your hotel. Don't know how good or bad.

If you're willing to travel to the upper west side you can find several Glatt Kosher restaurants (Moroccan, Italain, Thai, Chinese etc). You can check menupages.com for details.

As prev. stated, just click on Kosher

Clients of ours like Abilgails on Broadway @ 39th Street which would
be a good choice if you are planning
on attending the theatre.
